PLEASE chance me!!!

Your ECs are just as amazing as your SAT. The only thing that might hurt you is your GPA. I think you have a great shot at Columbia and Princeton. Just remember college admissions is a crapshoot. I know you stated this before, but be sure to stress yourself in college essays. Stanford told me when I went to visit that if you were to cross the name off your essay and drop it in you school hallway, the reader should know it’s YOU. Wish you all the best! Good Luck!

Please chance back, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1246620-chances-these-business-schools.html</a></p>

First off top 15% is not great. I imagine you go to a private school with such a small class size (worse if public school), but even then, you’d probably wanna be in the top 5. Have you taken SAT subject tests, b/c you’ll need them. You have some leadership demonstrated by your class president, though you do have a small class so it’s not gonna look as impressive without a larger class size. You have a distinguished record in terms of athletics. I think All-State Band is also pretty good. I’m guessing your service in South America was a mission trip which isn’t all too impressive (hopefully you didn’t use this for common app essay). Given your ethnicity and several indications that don’t make you seem academically stellar, I’d hesitate to say that you have great chances at your top choices. But obviously it’s worth a shot.

To dblazer.
Yah… oops.
I took SAT 2 US History and Math 2
I got a 770 on US History, and a 700 on Math 2

Idk how everyone has such amazing ecs
You have a good shot at those schools but not nearly as good as jh3146 said

You have great chances for all of these schools, or at least as anyone could have! Good luck.

Bump! Keep chancin please!

You look good for most except Harvard. Being Asian will hurt you a little but not too drastically

How do you have a president of a youth group? Haha

Your community service and extracurriculars are very good and your test scores are decent (although the math SAT is a bit low). I’d say your GPA is fine if you’re taking the hardest possible coursework, but your class rank is on the low side, though it depends how good your school is and how many kids the Ivies take from there each year.

Please let me know if I’m on the right track  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1247439-am-i-right-track-princeton.html</a></p>

bump! ^^ Yeah!

Your problem is rank. Look at the common data sets for these schools. They take a very small number who were not top 10%. that group is primarily impact athletes. It doesn’t matter how tough your school is. I worked at a school that sent 30% to ivies and could not get an unhooked student not in the top 10% into any of these schools.

^ Just wondering, if 30% of your school goes to ivies but only the top 10% get in if unhooked… are the other 20% all hooked…?

Well, I mean top 15 percent is like rank 6 or 7. It’s not too bad… I guess cause there are only 49 people in my class.

You have great scores/grades and amazing ECs, I think you stand a chance against ivy applicants because of all your leadership/community service/awards. Bottom line: Outstanding applicant!

Chance me back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1247460-chance-asian-harvard.html</a></p>

Nice, You have a good SAT and good EC’s. GPA is a little bit low but it is still good nevertheless. I’d say you have a good shot. Good Luck!

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1246572-chance-me.html</a></p>

Bump! Yeah! Keep chancing me please!

It’s two fold. Yes, the vast majority of kids getting into the ivies from my school had hooks. Lots of legacies, recruited athletes and URMs. BUT, our school did not rank as is the practice at most elite schools. This gives the colleges room to go lower without impacting their number in top 10% figure. Tough schools that rank are doing their students a tremendous disservice.

You’re either top 10% or you’re not. Top schools religiously accept the vast majority from the top10% pool regardless of size. I think many kids here believe they go to a top HS that is more average than they think. It’s hard to imagine a tough small high school ranking. A top high school has an average SAT score near 2100 and sends 20% plus to ivies plus (plus being MIT and Stanford) and another 25% to top 20 colleges.

In all honesty, these schools are MAJOR reaches for you. You have average SAT scores for them, a too low rank and very average SATs. And you’re an ORM. Your time would be much better spent focusing on schools a bit below these where you will still fight for a seat and it will require a great application.

Are you a college counselor?
