Thanks for everybody who chances me! And I will chance back!

Hey. I am a new member, so I am not sure how to start a new post. But I just want to ask my questions as a reply to this post. Sorry about that… :P

Anyways, I am going to apply for the Senate Youth Program (USSYP). I just wanted to know whether any of you knew about the selection process.

Also, as for the PSAT this year (I am a junior), do any of you know the cut off score or is it like determined after the test is taken? I want to be National merit and I am pretty nervous about that… Only a few more days!!!

My scores have been ranging like this in my tests (I tried taking real CB tests):

CR: 66-70
MA: 76-80
WR: 73-80

I am pretty nervous b/c there have been tests where I have only hit my lows - which is 66+76+73 = 215. I have gone below these ranges like once or twice - when I don’t concentrate much and leave out really stupid mistakes.

I usually hit 80 in math, but there are these times when I don’t read properly and miss out on 4 points. I know they are crucial to me - for I want to break 220 to be on the safe side.

Also, has the scale for writing been more harsh in the previous years, b/c I have seen scores drop to 71 in 2 mistakes (as in the 2013 practice test). I did only miss 1 on that test, but I do make more mistakes than that, and I don’t want to be in the danger zone of not making national merit.

@ Mc: sorry to tell you, but I am really familiar with the Senate program ,and I have never taken the PSAT. Therefore, I am sorry that I can’t help you.

@1000LEDS: well, since I am from China, I don’t know expression like match or reach equals to what possibility, so would you please interpret that for me? Thanks, dude!

Match and equal are terms used mostly on college websites like this one. But as far as I can interpret reach means that you aren’t 100% in just by the data you present. For example luvpanjabi said UCSD is a low reach college. This means that your chances of getting in are still high, but not 100%. A regular reach school just means that there is about an equal chance of you getting in to not getting in. High reach means that there is a small, but not impossible chance. MIT for you would be an example of a high reach school, you’ve done impressive things, but you don’t hvae perfect grades and MIT is always a reach school from what I’ve read. Finally I’m assuming match means is a good match for you and you will probably get in.
So in terms of likeliness to get in (from what I’ve interpreted from being on this forum for a day):
Safe>Match>Low Reach,Medium Reach>High Reach

You need to recalculate you UC GPA to get a better idea I how you will do. Use your tenth and 11th grade classes and add up your points for each class (5- A in AP/IB or honors class, 4- A in standard class or B in higher class, 3- B in standard class or C in high class, and so on) then you divide by the number of classes. PE classes don’t count. With this new number you’ll have a much better job of judging your chances of getting in.
