Chance Me for the Schools I'm Applying to?

I thought it wouldn't hurt to find out what you all thought my chances were.

Rising Senior, attending Westfield HS in Fairfax County, Northern VA.
I'm Asian girl applying to the Engineering (Major in Compsci) schools.

GPA: 4.2 W/3.8 UW
SAT: 2120 (750V, 670M, 700W) Retaking in October to get at least 2200.
SATII: Math II 700, USH 660, Spanish 550....yeah
By the end of high school I will have take 10 APs
My AP Scores include:
5: AP Psych (11)
4: AP USH (11) AP English Lang (11)
3: AP World (10)
2: Spanish Lang (11)

My grades could have been better but I was dealing with depression and other personal stuff at the time. I know it doesn't excuse my grades & I'm not even going to mention it to any of the admissions deans or in any of my essays. But it played a large factor in my grades because freshmen year I got straight A's. Depression hit 10th grade and my grades were...NOT straight A's anymore.

Next year I'm taking:
AP English Lit
AP Government
AP Calc AB
AP Biology
AP Spanish Lit
Advanced Band
Compsci

I'm applying:
ED to Columbia
EA to UVA
EA to UMich
EA to UMCP
EA to GA Tech
EA to GMU

And if I don't get into UVA or Columbia early then I'm planning on doing regular for:
William and Mary
Virginia Tech
Carnegie Mellon University
Northwestern University
Cornell University
UPenn
Just to have more options.

Thanks! (:

I hate when people do this but BUMP(:
I’m really scared my GPA will keep me out of my dream schools.
Also I love knitting(knittingbyjasmine.webs.com) and baking (bakingbyjasmine.webs.com) and have portfolios to show at my interviews. I’m baking a three tier cake this week or next week sometime (:

To be honest I don’t see you getting into Columbia because you are non-hooked and your SATs aren’t quite high enough (same with GPA- just below the average). You seem like an interesting candidate though, so based off your passions they might accept you. I think you could get into your other EA schools, and most of the RD schools minus Upenn, NW, and Cornell

Thank you both for you input. Patriots, I know my GPA and SAT scores aren’t quite Ivy league standard level but I thought my ECs would help me out and not quite outweigh my subpar GPA/SAT but still assuage them.

Newton (I love your username BTW) I am retaking the SAT I in October and then taking Physics or Chemistry and the Math 2 again in November. Because Columbia requires those applying to the eschool to have physics/chem and a math. And I might apply undecided for my major when I apply to Carnegie just because the Compsci admission rate is SOO low and I KNOW I won’t get into for compsci. And you made me feel a lot better so thank you for that (:

ED to Columbia
EA to UVA
EA to UMich
EA to UMCP
EA to GA Tech
EA to GMU

lol

Why are the schools I’m applying to “lol”? I’m confused.

Because if you apply ED at Columbia you can’t apply early anywhere else.

Yes you can. The other schools I am applying to are Early Action not Early Decision, as in non-restrictive. You just can’t do ED anywhere else if you’re applying ED to one school…or at least that’s what I thought from what I’ve read on CC

No, early decision means you can only apply to one school early, doesn’t matter if it’s early action or not.

Chance me?

Your math sat score seems a little low for what you intend to major in.

My son got a 700 on his math sat, and he hates math.

Try to get that math sat score up a bit, by studying your basic algebra and geometry by doing practice tests. My son raised his math score from a 660 to a 700, with ZERO studying.

Well from: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/352580-can-you-apply-early-action-early-decision.html</a> I read the post that cory123 posted: I just know Columbia ED allows you to apply EA elsewhere. So that’s why I thought you could…

And floridadad55, thanks for your answer. I’ve really been trying to up my math scores. I honestly don’t know why it’s only a 670 because math is my favorite subject, I’m good at it and I know what type of questions to expect on the SAT after going through so many of the problem sets. I got a 640 and then a 670 so maybe I’ll go up another 30 this time? I just want to break the 700 mark on that at least (:

ah my mistake. According to [Early Decision | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/applications/firstyear/earlydecision)

Columbia will let you apply EA elsewhere

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it depends on the school? But most encourage not to apply EA anywhere else but they don’t keep you from doing it.
