Chance me for these top engineering schools?

What is your reasoning?

A combination of your ACT score and your ECs. S (MechE) got waitlisted last year with higher stats and stronger ECs. Very subjective I know, but it wasn’t completely baseless.

Ok, anyway I’ll be taking the act again in december and april. Anyone else?

A 4.0 to a 3.8 is a pretty big drop for one year, are you sure it’s that bad?
Bring the ACT up, or try taking the SAT. You might do pretty well.
-Stanford: Gamble for everyone, but I’d say low-mid reach
-MIT: Same as above
-UC Berkeley: Low reach/High match
-Brown: Low reach
-Cornell: Low reach (ED only, REA does not exist)
-U of I: Safety
-UT Austin: Not sure, probably a match
-Northwestern: Low match (ED only)
-Purdue: Safety
-University of Washington - Seattle: No idea

The drop to the 3.8 is worst case scenario. A few of my grades are borderline between As and Bs right now.

BUMP after 1st semester… UW: 3.97 W: 4.48 ACT: 35

-Stanford (reach, but that’s the case for everyone :P)
-MIT (same as Stanford)
-UC Berkeley (match/low reach)
-Brown (low reach but unpredictable)
-Cornell (match/low reach)
-U of I (Not sure, but I think low match/safety)
-UT Austin (match)
-Northwestern (high match/very low reach)
-Purdue (Match)
-University of Washington - Seattle (Match)

Strengths:

 • Great GPA
 • Rigorous Course
 • Decent ACTs
 • Committed EC’s
 • Some knowledge about programming

Weaknesses:

 • Your EC’s are well rounded but a bit too well rounded to the point where I don’t necessarily know your true passion. You got sport, music, academics, etc, and can’t seem to grasp a sense of your passion. TIP: set up a programming club or something and maybe write an essay on it.

Overall I’d say you’ve got a decent chance at all the colleges. Definitely for Berkeley if you keep up the good work, and if you focus some of your passion more to programming (do not drop your tennis and music though, they show commitment) then you’re a strong candidate for MIT and Stanford as well.

Bump…

I see you have UT on your list but you left out Texas A&M… A&M is a excellent engineering school, you should at least consider it!

From what I researched, a&m didn’t seem to compete with the caliber of the engineering programs of the schools I am looking at.
