I’m going to enter my junior year in a month, and I’m curious about where I stand when it comes to top tier schools (I’m looking at Princeton and Berkeley the most). I’m a domestic applicant.
GPA:
9th- 10/10
10th- 10/10
I took the SAT as a practice, and got 2240/2400 (will retake in Oct). I got 219/240 in the PSAT as a sophomore, but will try harder this year.
Subject tests: Math 1- 780/800
Math 2: 800/800
Physics- 800/800
Will take literature and chemistry later.
Awards/ECs
- Won 3 international essay awards (1st prize and many honorable mentions, many cash awards)
- Won 2 national essay awards (came in press and everything)
- Published in twelve international literary journals (such as Adroit Journal, etc.). Will send to highly ranked ones later.
- Writing for a national parenting magazine, few other internships
- Keep a poetry blog, been writing for the last 4 years
- Various state awards for English and writing
- Piano and singing for 11+ years, many awards, concerts and performances
- Organized a fundraiser, raised lots of funds
- State and national spelling bee awards in freshman and sophomore year
- MUN club (2 years)
So… can you please tell me a little about my chances? And if possible, could you give me some advice about where I can improve?
Thanks for your time!
You stand as a competitive applicant at all top tier schools. You will probably get into most schools you apply to, but then again with schools like princeton it is tough to tell.
Chance me back?

Your ECs are brilliant and your scores are decent. You have a better chance than most at top schools. Chance back?; http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1778302-chance-an-asian-yale-duke-williams-p1.html
Thanks a lot! Does anyone have any advice as to where I can improve my application? There’s still a year and a half until I apply RD, and I want to do anything I can.
Congratulations on all your academic, scores and EC achievements! You are on your way.
Start thinking about building relationships with your teachers so that you can line up stellar recommendations. Establish leadership achievements with your EC’s pursuits. You are on your way. Just nail your Junior year!
Your stats and ECs are great but there are also thousands of students with a better resume. If you want to increase your chances than you should apply early to your top choice. Also do your research and make sure you can afford it. You should also make a list of safeties that you can easily get into and you wouldn’t mind going to if you don’t get into your reaches.
@bksoccer7 Thanks! Anyone else?
