Essays and Recs should all be good enough. I liked my essays but no guarantee colleges will.

Dartmouth: No
Yale: No
Northwestern:Super Reach
Harvard: No
Princeton: Are you kidding me?!?
MIT: Maybe if you’re a Native American, but if not; No
UPenn: No
Amherst: No
WashU: Safety

You’re a strange case because while your ECs/Scores/Achievements are quite impressive, your GPA is very low. I’d say the top ivies are high reaches, while colleges like NU and WashU are matches.

It’s unlikely my first semester grades will count for much, but I am pulling As in all my classes this year but BC calc. Also, the grading system at my school is relatively harsh, so even some very smart people have low gpas. The only worry is that Naviance has shown a pretty poor record for accepting kids from my school as far as these schools. Eg. last year 15 applied to U of C, 0 got in.

I have no idea what the extent/prestige of those awards are. But your GPA is really low and your test scores are all amazing, which is kinda weird. I’m guessing your school is very harsh on grading? Your ECs are unimpressive. I’m just konfuzzled!

UChicago - high reach
Dartmouth - high reach
Yale - high reach
Northwestern - reach
Harvard - high reach
Princeton - high reach
MIT - high reach
UPenn - reach
NYU - Stern - not familiar
Amherst College - high reach
CMU - high match
Brandeis - not familiar
UMichigan - match
Washington University at St. Louis - reach

Your SATs are excellent, but neither your grades nor your ECs stand out in the least. While it’s true that your school has a harsh grading system, 3.4 doesn’t say very much to colleges. I don’t know if they’ll consider the grading curves, but if they do, I’d say:

UChicago - reach
Dartmouth - reach
Yale - high reach
Northwestern - highmatch/reach
Harvard - high reach
Princeton - high reach
MIT - high reach
UPenn - reach
NYU - Stern
Amherst College - reach
CMU - match
Brandeis
UMichigan - safety/low match
Washington University at St. Louis - high match

Thanks for all the comments. Anyone know if dedication to a few ECs is comparable to having ‘unique’ ECs? So I agree my ECs are generic, but I’m definitely on an entirely different level with some of them (piano etc.)

why so many ■■■■■■ on this thread?
yes your GPA will hurt you, but try to emphasize how you are on that different levels in your EC’s.
good test and AP scores will go a long way.
Also, without seeing your class rank, we cannot see your GPA in context.
You DO have a shot at all the schools listed, but you may want to consolidate your reach schools and add more matches and safeties.

We’d really need to know where you fall rank wise. You have pretty average scores for accepted students at top schools, so you’re secure score wise. Your ECs won’t keep you out, good, but not stand out at top schools. So understanding your GPA is the missing piece of the puzzle.

In any case, Stern, Michigan and brandies look likely.

Reaches for everything, low gpa and ec’s are weak go to Umass using the John and Abigail Adams Scholly. Save up a bunch of money then go to a a good graduate school.
