chance me for tufts?

Not sure if I’ll be applying for the combined BA/BFA SMFA/Tufts degree or just as a history major /colonialism studies minor but here goes nothing? I’m also applying to W&M + UCLA + Rochester U + John Hopkins + Vassar.

Stats:
W GPA: 4.133 (significant upward trend & would be a 4.27 when I exclude middle school grades)
Senior Yr Courses: APlit + APbio + AP comp gov + BCcalc + APstat + political science + nature of knowledge
AP’s: APush (5) + APlang (5) ABcalc (4) + AP world (5) + AP2Dart (5) + APhg (5)
SAT I: 1510 (retook but havent received new score yet)
SAT II: 800 US History + 770 World History + 750 Math II

Subjective:
EC’s: Digital Art Club (cofounder & president), NHS + NEHS + NHHS (regular member), digital painting? (I’ve been doing art for as long as I can remember)
Awards: AP Scholar w/ Distinction, 3rd Place State Science Fair, Scholastic Art Awards (gold keys/silver keys from over the yrs)
Volunteering: Art teacher assistant at local Chinese school (4 yrs; ~ 180 hrs), Smithsonian Transcriber & Reviewer (~150 pages of documents/8 projects), Folklife Festival Volunteer (~25 hrs), English proofreader for a foreign environmental advocate agency (1 month; ~320 hrs)

ngl my ‘subjective’ points are extremely weak lol

Other:
State: VA
Country: US (not a citizen tho and I won’t be eligible for citizenship until 2018)
School Type: public school
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female (considering clicking the genderqueer/nonbinary option but I feel like throwing that on my application seems just performative since I’m not ‘out’ and i consider my gender identity to be ideological rather than a social position)
Income Bracket: ~100k (applying for FA)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I’m interested in studying history/political economy but also maintaining my passions in arts? i also tend to look at history from a marxist/materialist perspective bc of my interest in class conflict and labor but idk if that’s too controversial to take note of

You are obviously a very competitive applicant

Thanks for your input! To be honest, the reason why I felt so insecure about myself was due to my fluctuating academic performance (i got C’s in high school courses I took in middle school and barely passed with a B- in sophomore precalc…) which I’m afraid will receive scrutiny from college admission officers. My extracurriculars aren’t that impressive either so I feel very shadowed by other applicants with much more impressive resumes and academic profiles.

.

What’s your UW GPA?

@Hopefuld23 my school doesn’t calculate uw gpa but it’s a 3.8 when i disregard the hs level courses i took as a middle school student. im admittedly too ashamed to calculate my uw gpa with those middle school classes included as they reflect a pretty bad period of my life and i’m (naively?) operating under the hopes that those grades will generally not be considered as ive been told by my school counselors.

Ok. I think that ED, you will be competitive and will likely get in. However, less so during RD with all the ivy applicants and larger applicant pool, and it could go either way then unless you write really good essays.

@Hopefuld23 I guess I’ll just take my chances with ED2 since I’ve already informed my counselor and recommenders so and it’s a little too late to go back on that. I’ve pretty much accepted at this point that I’m one of the lower-tier applicants whose background isnt spectacularly appealing (the whole passion for labor history and colonialism might sound alarm bells but mybe it won’t be so concerning since I intend those interests to express themselves through a colonialism studies minor?) so I’m just going to try my best and hope my sincerity comes through in the essays. I appreciate the feedback though, and it’s comforting to know I still have some semblance of a chance of becoming a student there.
