Hey I’m currently a senior and have applied to most UC’s and have currently been accepted to UC Riverside so far. However, UCSC and UCI are my top choices. If you can take the time to chance me, that’ll be awesome!
UC GPA: 3.27 (Low I know )
ACT: 29
AP Classes: US History (4 on AP test) AP European History (3) Stats (Taking it Currently) Econ (Current) Government (Current) Biology (Current)
Extracurriculars: 4 years of Band and Marching Band, Section leader in Band, Varsity Badminton for 2 years, 3rd language I took at Sunday School for 3 years, and Piano for 7 years.
Other notes: I know that my GPA is pretty low but I’ve been having an upward grade trend since Freshmen year (I started working a lot harder after I saw my freshmen year grades.).
I’m really hoping that my ACT and Essay outshine my low GPA…
Your UC GPA is definitely on the low side and your ACT is not the most competitive score but is still decently high., Your ECs seem okay. If your major isn’t Engineering, you should be able to get into UCSC. UCI will definitely be hard though.
UCSC: high match
UCI: low reach/reach
But you never know, it could completely happen A lot of people have gotten into UCs with much worse stats.
Post back on this thread your decisions later this month, I could really use it.
I have a few friends that got into UCSC (Major won’t matter; having in EC’s in the major you want though will definitely give you the edge on admissions) with a low GPA. UC Irvine on the other hand, you have a good chance as long as your essay’s were good. Good luck.
Your ECs seem fine and ACT in accordance with UCSC and UCI seems average/a bit above average as well. But yes, your UC GPA is really low. As far as I can say:
UCSC: high match
UCI: low reach
Your GPA sets you down, but if your essay shares a strong, unique story, you might as well get in. For now, I’d say you getting into UCSC is 50/50 as well.
Everything seems to be in order except for your GPA, but if you gave some sort of explanation about in your UC application I think you’ll be fine. Your ACT is definitely a plus factor and shows them that you have the competency to complete the rigor, but your tipping factor will most definitely be your essay.
Good ACT, pretty good AP scores, and interesting EC’s. (Interesting is good!) You already know about the GPA. Hopefully they see you as more than just a GPA, and if you feel good about your essays then you should definitely sleep a little easier.
UCI might be a reach, but I would venture to say you’ll get accepted to UCSC. Do let us know your results!
Anyone want to give it 1 last shot? I find out tomorrow one way or another… Can barely get any sleep lol. I’ll post my decision, whatever it may be, tomorrow.
Hey, just wanted to wish you goodluck on your decisions from both schools. I am also waiting for decisions from UCI and UCSC. You have a good shot at UCSC. UCI is a bit of a reach for you, but with a little luck you can get in. Hope all goes well for you, and remember, the schools you go to doesn’t necessarily determine how successful you are going to be.
@niting Nope. Some friends of mine got rejected by UCD but got into UCSD with a low UC GPA. (Engineering)
They did active work in their desired major however which made them ahead of the curve than those with super good grades but barely getting into the field.
