Chance Me for UC!

Please chance me for…

  • UC Berkeley
  • UCLA
  • UCSD
  • Maybe one Ivy ED? Which one(s) do I have the best chances of being admitted to? *Please tell me if I have no chance of being admitted to these schools.

Background:

  • Asian-American female
  • Low-income
  • School currently under construction (in other words: no real campus, lockers, gym, auditorium, etc.)
  • CA resident

Intended Major:

  • Applied Math
  • Math - Applied Science

SAT:

  • Composite: 1470
  • Math: 790
  • English: 680
  • Essay: 22/24
  • I am not retaking. Should I submit though?

ACT:

  • Composite: 34
  • Math: 34
  • English: 36
  • Essay: 8/12
  • I am retaking. Should I aim for perfect math and higher essay?

AP Scores:

  • AP Calculus AB: 5
  • AP Biology: 5
  • APES: 3 (Should I send? I self-studied, but not very impressive.)
*Not that many APs offered at my school. (ie. no World, Psych, Calc BC…)

Should I take SAT II Math 2? I’m afraid of not getting an 800.

GPA:

  • Unweighted: 4.0
  • Weighted: 4.5

Extracurriculars:
I don’t feel like listing them all, but they are all school-centric. I do very little outside of school clubs besides volunteering in my town and tutoring at an elementary school. I started a math club at my school that runs a peer tutoring system. I will tutor for AP Biology this upcoming school year. I played badminton my freshman year but took a year break during my sophomore year; should I explain why in my app?

Let me know if you have questions. Please be nice haha.

Based on your posted stats, all the UC’s are possible. Much will depend upon your essays and your EC’s which can set you apart from the rest of equally qualified applicants. As always, consider UCB and UCLA as Reach schools. UCSD seems the most likely.

Do you have any safety schools on your list since UC’s can be very unpredictable? Definitely take the Math 2 subject test since your many of your fellow applicants will be submitting a Math 2 test score.

Best of luck.
