chance me for UCB/UCLA?

Assuming that I apply under CoE (college of engineering) for both schools, what would my chances be?

misc:
COSMOS (UC STEM Summer program)
Tutoring (paid 11-12): varies, but usually 5 hours/wk.

Assume that essays are good (and pertains to major that I’m interested in, as recommended by UCB)
My test scores and ECs aren’t spectacular, so I’m trying to offset that with good essays.

Considering this, what would my chances be? Would it just be better to apply under Letters of Sciences? (major for LOS would be CS or chemistry)
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Your SAT score is pretty good! GPA is also good but its cutting it close, the other thing is they might be fishy about your high GPA but low AP scores.

What is your UC GPA?

your ap scores arent low lol .3’s and 4’s are still very good

I think you have a solid chance with those ECs and SAT scores. BTW: How can you be taking so many IB courses? At my school, they tell us that the IB program only lets you take 3 SL’s and 3 HL’s…
There is a weird correlation between those AP scores and everything else tho. But no need to worry, admission doesn’t look at your AP scores so youre set for success! good luck!!

@divinggirl6 my school does the ib program so that basically we complete the course in 1 year (with the exception of lit; 11th and 12th go together). we only have 2 SL courses (econ and spanish) so i’m assuming that’s why we have no limit…? also, theres really no other course i can take besides these (took almost every course offered).
regarding my ap scores, i didn’t prep well for the exams…(practice qs for exposure/timing) thats one thing i regret now looking back but that just means im going to have to rely on my ib tests for credits.
@radrower im just worried about my sat subject tests & my ecs… if anything i think cosmos would be the only thing thatd save me
will get back to u on ur thread if i can give u any feedback (gotta cram for a test rn)

thank you guys for ur input tho

UCLA and Berkeley are safeties

@cappex i’m applying for eecs under college of engineering so i highly doubt they’d be safeties…

UCLA and Berkeley are not safeties for anyone.

I concur with @Ballerina016, that UCLA and UCB are not safeties. OP you are a very competitive applicant and you have a great chance at an acceptance but there is no guarantee. You look like a solid Match.

@Ballerina016 how would I calculate my UC GPA?

http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

@Gumbymom thank you! using that I get 4.13… it seems to me that the more classes you take, the lower your GPA (according to this calculator) ex: 20 As, 4 Bs with the 8 AP/IB/Honors cap = 4.17 GPA but 28 As, 4 Bs with the 8 AP/IB/Honors cap = 4.13 GPA…

UCLA and UCB will also look at unweighted and UC weighted (uncapped). You are still a competitive applicant and should be proud of your accomplishments so far. Good Luck.

That is correct. This is the way this calculator works. Fortunately, UCB and UCLA don’t cap GPA. Generally they use the capped GPA to determine minimum GPA requirement for UCs.

^yes. If you keep the number of your weighted courses constant/same but increase the number of your non-weighted, then your weight GPA decreases! Perhaps it is not that fair but that is what it is! The only advantage is that you are taking more classes and as such you have a more rigrious total coursework. Hopefully the adcoms notice that you were taking more classes.

@uclaparent9 yeah  hopefully they do and see it as something good
