UCLA: High Match
UCLA doesn’t consider race, but your story is interesting which would help you I think. Unfortunately, your major is quite competitive but I wish you the best of luck!

I think you will get a Supplement-cause of your story-from UCLA or Berkeley and then you will get in!

i think you’re pretty set! your SAT could be just a liiitttle higher, but everything else seems to make up for it…youre looking pretty good for all the other ucs also, just not ucb lol
good job though
chance me?

Sorry but how do you maintain the same extra-curriculars and positions for 3+ years when you’re constantly moving? How do you afford to do karate for 15 years when you’ve been homeless at certain times? Debate and Key club are also pretty expensive ECs to maintain especially if you’re heavily involved and travel for debate. I know there are stories about homeless kids doing very well at school, but still that possibility combined with your expensive ECs that seem impossible to maintain if you keep on moving makes me question what you’re saying.

Your story is very inspirational. We had a cal speaker come to our school once who talked about a student similar to you, but with far fewer ECs and worse stats that got in. You’d make a great cover student/ role model. I believe that you’d get in if this were all true. I just really doubt the validity of some of these statements. Sorry if I sound harsh; I’m trying to say this in the politest way possible.

Your grades and GPA and ECs are great but your SAT score could be higher

Wedlini,

I truly take your comment as a compliment by expressing how you find it difficult that I have done all this. My ECs are 100% true. To clarify, I have kept the same ECs because the schools I have attended had the same clubs. I have been in more clubs that I failed to mention because of the reason that they weren’t available at my new school. But the ones I have listed either were or I combined them into groups such as Science Olympiad at my old school is extremely similar to Academic team at my current one. Debate is expensive IF you go on all the trips which i didn’t because of money issues but i did go to a few local ones which aren’t expensive at all. and Key club doesn’t cost anything over the club fee lol. I have done Karate for 15 years because my father is the Teacher lol and that is his career and we have moved multiple times because his jobs haven’t been going well. We had to live in the car or hotels while he worked but this past year we have maintained an apartment and thankfully things are going better. I have gained leadership positions because I started art club and key club held nominations at the beginning of the year  Anyways thanks for your comment and I’m trying to keep up the good work! And I know I will get at least a 1950 by senior year if not a 2000 but I recently went on the UC calculator for estimating financial aid and they don’t meet need 100% so it said I would still have to pay around $30,000 even though my EFC is $0 :frowning: so I don’t think I will be applying to any UCs anymore. It really sucks that their financial aid system isn’t good. Does anybody know of any other Caliornia universities that match my stats but have good financial need based aid???

Have you looked into scholarships?

USC: Reach
Cornell: Reach (since you’re a female applying for an engineering program, it’s reachable)
Columbia: Reach
U Rochester: Match
UF: Match

Fantastic ECs. Really the only thing you need is to work to get your SAT’s to a 2100+ minimum. I did individual SAT tutoring and it made a huge difference. If not, try the ACT. If you increase test scores, Columbia, Cornell, and UCLA, and USC are low reaches  Good luck and your ethnicity/ background and being a female engineer are good hooks.

Chance back?

Low reach

Bring that SAT upto a 2000-2100 to have a shot.

Letjustin,

I surprisingly haven’t found many scholarships for my case as a low income student :frowning: any suggestions?? I have no idea where to looks and websites like ***** and fast web only have contest based scholarship but now need based ones…
