Chance me for UCLA?

Also, UCSB, UCSD, And UCB. I plan to apply as mechanical engineering.

GPA (Unweighted, Weighted)
3.97, 4.53
I got straight A's throughout all of highschool, aside from one B+ freshman years. Took one AP sophomore year, three APs junior year, four APs senior year, and a lot of honors classes.

Scores:
SAT: 590 critical reading, 670 math, 670 writing (1930 composite)
However, I just retook it and hopefully got a better score.
ACT: haven't taken yet
AP: APeuro(2), APUSH(1), Chem(3), English(4)

The next is straight from my application:
Educational prep:
MESA (4 years, treasurer 12th grade), Pre-Engineering Academy (1 year, offered at the local navy base)

Volunteering:
School Recycling (1 year, about 100 hours, was the leader), Coastal Cleanup (1 year, only 6 hours), Tae Kwon Do Demonstrations (2 years, about 70 hours), Link Crew (2 years, about 40 hours)

Awards/honors:
NHRP Scholar (got recognized as an academically excelling Hispanic student), 2nd Degree Black Belt (received after 10 years of tkd), MESA regionals 2nd place (2nd place in math competition) MESA regionals 3rd place (3rd place in math competition another year), Principals award (top scholar at school)

Extracurriculars:
Tae Kwon Do (12 years), Track and Field (4 years), Cross Country (3 years), Food Culture Club (Co-Founder, this year), Guitar (5 years)

Essays will be about:
1) Growing up as the youngest child, eventually becoming independent
2) Experience helping underprivileged children through Tae Kwon Do

Also to take note:
I am a CA resident
Hispanic
Top 3% in class of 630 students
School isn't exactly high quality

Much thanks!

Your GPA is ok but SAT scores maybe borderline. If you apply to private schools your URM may help.

(Bump)

Calculate your UC GPA: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Your GPA looks on target but SAT is low for UCLA and UCB. Need an SAT of 2100+ or ACT of 32+ for ME.
EC’s look good. Write some amazing essays.

UCLA/UCB: Reach
UCSD: Low Reach/High Match
UCSB: High Match

Do you have any safeties?? UCR or UCSC possibly. You should include UCD or UCI as High Matches on your list.

Good Luck and hopefully ACT will be a better score.

You have a perfect GPA in your Sophomore and Junior years and your 1930 SAT score is not too bad.

UCB - low reach
UCLA - low reach
UCSD - high match / match
UCSB - low match

If you apply to UCD and UCI, they will be low matches.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that sdsu is my safety and I’m also applying to Cal Poly. Also, I’m thinking about applying to UC Davis, but would applying to 5 UC’s be a bit much?

My son’s applied to 7 of the 9 UC’s, so if you can afford it, go ahead and add UCD.

No, it’s a good idea. You may get some merit aid.

SDSU is tough to enter now. Are you sure SDSU is a safety for you???

@aunt_bea Many kids from my school go to sdsu and many of the ones I know had no where near as good of stats as the OP. It is a safety.

@Kreig01: All of the California schools, UC’s and CSU’s are impacted in engineering. Fortunately for the OP, his/her grades are good enough to get into some schools but that SAT is low. SDSU and Long Beach are impacted. That’s why I asked. SDSU is getting tougher because of the location, its impacted majors, and its sports teams.

He has good GPA and that’s what UCs care most.
