Chance Me for UCs and OOSS

Hello, I would like recommendations / chance-me’s for some colleges with a good undergrad business program

My cumulative UW is roughly a 3.52, Weighted 4.36
UC GPA: 3.6UW, 3.83 Capped, 4.45 Uncapped

SAT I, 1580 (First Take), TOEFL iBT: Max Score so a 120

Took about 11 (As of Junior Year), 17 (Senior) in total
AP Exam Scores) AP Macro and Micro: 5, AP Japanese: 5, APWH: 3, APUSH: 5, APCSP: 4, APCSA: 5, AP Stats: 4, AP Physics: 3 (Yikes lol)

ECs)

  1. Summer Internship at Blizzard Entertainment for Product Management, a very selective program intended mostly for college students. The internship was paid, worked ~5hr shifts on-Fri; very fun experience, able to find a new perspective of fundamentals of work.

  2. Political Outreach Org Fellow, An non-profit organization with roughly about 34 members who dedicate service to the political activism of the 21st century. (2hr~/wk)

  3. Youth Advisory Council of my residing city, assisted with the financial prospects of this program. Regarding assets as well as risk in different proposed projects for our community. (2 Monthly Meetings, and personalized interview programs)

  4. Varsity Athletics (3yrs, 5hr/week) Team Captain, District-Wide All-League 1st

  5. Participated in a local Hackathon @ college, and with my group members, we discussed formulating a website for Japanese-American and Asian American immigrant students who may have questions regarding the American College Application process. Resume building, etc.

  6. Personal College Project where I pictured different cultural traditions and objects when visiting East Asia over sophomore year. (Might not mention)

  7. FBLA Club, 4 Years
Will not list other ecs, because I have quite a few more

Awards) AP Scholar w/ Distinction, NHS for Japanese, FBLA Awards (State Competitions), Journalism Photographer District Award 2020 & 2021 (Dub)

My list:
Safety
San Jose State, UC Riverside, ASU, NAU

Target
UCSC, UC Davis, San Diego State, Cal Poly Slo, CSUF, CSULB, UCSD, NYU Stern (Dream School)

Reach
UCLA, UCB, Emory, Boston University, Boston College, Vanderbilt, UPenn (lmao no shot)

Pls give me some other schools possibly, thank you!

The 2021 admit numbers are not yet posted for the UC’s but since they are test blind, your GPA will be heavily weighted and under a 4.0 Capped weighted make most of the UC’s a tough admit. Looking at the UC discussions, many 4.0+ capped weighted GPA applicants had a rough time this year.

You have very good EC’s and your HS course rigor looks competitive. I would really focus on the schools that will consider your excellent SAT score which will help offset your GPA.

UCSD would more of a Low Reach/Reach while UC Davis would be a Target/Low Reach. SLO will be a Low Reach for Business.

I would look a LMU (Loyola Marymount) and Santa Clara in-state for good Business programs. For OOS, I would look at University of Arizona.

Here is the 2020 admit numbers for your capped weighted GPA range:
2020 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:

UCB: 14%

UCLA: 8%

UCSD: 39%

UCSB: 40%

UCD: 55%

UCI: 38%

UCSC: 82%

UCR: 90%

UCM: 97%

Thank you very much for the response! I will definitely readjust my list according to some of the statistics. Will definitely look into Loyola Marymount.

If you are interested in product management, UCSC has a Technology and Information Management degree that suggests product management as a possible career path after college.

I would move NYU to reach.

U of A is easy to get into but solid - especially in MIS. ASU is strong - especially in supply chain. To give you more schools is hard because we don’t know your desires - large (I assume), medium, small…goegraphy, etc.

But strong schools that could work are Miami of Ohio, Florida State, Indiana, Denver. If you wanted hospitality, UNLV. There’s tons of strong b-schools out there - but it depends on your interests - both major and by school size/location, etc.

Good luck.

That seems to be a possible career path for me as well, will look forward for it

with a 3.8 UCGPA most of the UCs are going to be a reach. UCR is coin-toss and UCM is likely. The rest are really unlikely.

CP SLO is also really unlikely. SDSU, I’d call a coin-toss. The rest of the CSUs are very likely to admit you. Chico, Sonoma and Sac would be good ads to your list.

Apply broadly and good luck.

Hello
So my school recalculated GPAs this year and I recalculated my GPA using the Rogerhub Calculator and here is my new calculated GPA.

Unweighted: 3.73, Weighted, Capped: 4.08, Weighted: 4.67

Is this any better?

I’m definitely looking towards more CSUs and looking at UCs as a reach. I still do not really understand why UCs are going test-blind, but it’s really unfortunate and somewhat understandable…

Over a 4.0 UC capped weighted is better but the same admit range remains for that GPA. Still waiting on 2021 stats. UC’s had planned to go test optional but due to Covid and a lawsuit, the UC’s were forced to go test blind.

University of California announces it will not use SAT, ACT in admissions decisions - Daily Bruin.

2020 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:

UCB: 4.22 (4.13-4.30)

UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.31)

UCSD: 4.16 (4.04-4.28)

UCSB: 4.15 (4.03-4.27)

UCI: 4.11 (3.96-4.26)

UCD: 4.11 (3.97-4.25)

UCSC: 3.94 (3.71-4.16)

UCR: 3.88 (3.65-4.11)

UCM: 3.68 (3.40-3.96)

Ohh so it was a lawsuit.
Possibly a violation of a civil right? For maybe students who do not have the opportunity to receive testing or such?

The GPA range by campus is a pretty good guide to your competitiveness at each UC campus. with a 4.08 you are a solid candidate for UCM, UCR and maybe UCSC. The rest of the UCs are still a reach.

CPSLO is also a reach. Most majors at the rest of the CSUs are likely.

Good luck.

Also note that Cal Poly SLO uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation with a 8 semester cap on Honors points (only CSU that includes 9th grades) so use the Rogerhub calculator and include 9th grades to get the SLO GPA = Capped weighted from the calculation.

SLO 2021 Freshman admit GPA: 4.00-4.25 for the Business School and a 27.09% acceptance rate.
