3.25/3.36 GPA. If I retake sociology: 3.35/3.45

I have bad grades my first few semesters because I didn't care about college back then. I came back about a year ago with more motivation.

I was on the Dean's list during Fall 2011 and I made the President's list Spring 2012.

The reason I'm a little reluctant to retake sociology is because it will still show a D on my application this October when I apply to Universities. If I retake it during the winter, It'll be too late, right?

So far what do you think? Is my GPA a little low or just right? I heard Anthropology is not an impacted major, so that might boost my chances.

I can post all my non-transferable classes if you wish.

I should also note that there are two prerequisites for UCSB and UCSD that I don't have time to take: Principles of Bio 1 and Principles of Bio 2.

Definitely retake sociology.

Why not apply to UCLA as well?

Retake Sociology in the Fall 2012 term! Even though you’re applying with a ‘D’ the UCs will ask for an update in January 2013. That’s when they’ll see that you retook the class in Fall 2012 and the bad grade won’t be held against you.

Also, you’re jeopardizing being rejected by UCSB because your first transferable math class is being taken in Spring 2013. UCs like to see you complete it by the Fall term before transfer at the latest.

I wasn’t able to get a sociology class this semester because it closed immediately. Are you guys sure about the math class? I know it’s a TAG requirement. In fact, The only reason I can’t do TAG for UCSB is because I won’t have transferable math by fall. You only need a 3.20 gpa for TAG.

I can’t say that EVERY applicant that doesn’t have their math requirement completed by Fall semester before transfer will be rejected, but the UCs definitely consider these types of applicants to be risky to admit. UCSB is very strict with this. UCs don’t like to speculate if you’ll be able to pass your transferable math class. The best you can do is apply and if you get rejected you can appeal after you get your math grade at the end of the Spring semester.

Damn… I’m glad I know this. So far what do you think of my gpa? It’s pretty low for UCSB. I think the average transfer gpa in 2010 was 3.44. I’m way below that.

UCLA only offers a BS in Anthropology. Not what I’m looking for.

Have you looked into UC Davis? If you can get in there, I would take that school any day over Sac State.

Incorrect. UCLA also offers a BA in Anthro.

Yes! U.C Davis actually offers what I want! I just looked into it. B.A in Anthropology with emphasis in evolutionary track.

It seems I also qualify for TAG. They want mathematics and English completed by Spring 2012 with a 3.20 at least.

The only down side is this little note: meet or exceed the minimum overall GPA of 3.20 from the time their TAGs are submitted up to the time of
enrollment. Students cannot receive grades below a C.

That’s a bummer since I have a D. Or do they mean I can’t receive new Ds when I submit my TAG?

UC Davis TAG Information:http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/tag/criteria/F13TAG_criteria.pdf</a></p>

You’re right. I don’t know how I missed it.
