Is UF your first choice? Yes, I would LOVE to be a cheerleader at UF
Other schools you applied for: FSU (denied) and UCF (deferred to summer)
Major/Field of Study: business
I’ve been having really bad luck, was surprised I didn’t get into FSU, and really don’t want to go to summer at UCF.
I’d say your chances are somewhat slim at UF. However, having visited UCF recently we were really impressed. It’s a great option if UF doesn’t work out. Good luck!
do you say my chances are slim because of my SAT?
It isn’t any one thing, don’t get me wrong, I think you could definitely be successful as a student at UF. However there seems to be more people than ever applying to Florida state schools this year (based on FSU’s experience), and UF has been very picky. Your GPA/test scores don’t quite hit their averages, and while that isn’t a deal killer by itself, your ECs, while great in the cheerleading category, don’t have a lot of breadth. On the other hand they put significant weight on the essay, so if they love your essay you could very well get in. It sounds like your essay could have some potential.
I hope you achieve your dream of going to UF, and it could well happen. If it doesn’t, I hope you’re not too disappointed because like I said, UCF seemed very appealing when we visited.
Best of luck to you!
@cheerleader25 It’s a lot of factors. Your UF GPA is really low (Average GPA for UF this year will probably be around 4.4), and average SAT scores are around 1370. Your course rigor doesn’t seem to be that good either. I think that most of the kids who get in have taken tons of AP/Honors. But who knows? I’ve heard that UF scales it to the courses offered at your school. If your school offered a lot of APs but you didn’t take them, that’s going to hurt your chances. If it doesn’t, then they won’t count it against you, but even if your school didn’t offer them I feel like you’d still be at a disadvantage compared to kids who took 12+ AP classes in high school.
But even that doesn’t guarantee admission. UF is pretty random sometimes, so you have a shot, but it’s likely that you’ll get put in their PaCE program instead.
Realistically if FSU denied you then you probably don’t have that much of a shot at UF since it’s a lot harder to get into
