Going into my senior year in St. Johns County, FL. The #1 public school district in all of Florida. No inflated grades whereas at other FL school districts you can get a 4.0 for just showing up unfortunately.

I’m interested in applying to UF and FSU for the Summer or Fall terms of 2016 (whichever increases my chances). Here are my basic stats:

Intended Major: Accounting/Finance/Business Admin

GPA: 3.8 w, 3.3 uw (slacked freshmen year with some C’s)
SAT: 1980 (not superscored, just one test)
Class Rank: Top 30% (400+ students)
Most Rigorous Schedule* (10+ Honors Classes/6 AP’s)
Business Career Academy Student (Nationally recognized)

Completed AP’s:
Human Geo (5) 9th grade
World History (4) 10th grade
Art History (3) 10th grade
Enviornmental Science (5) 11th grade
Psychology (5) 11th grade
US History (4) 11th grade

I’ve also taken a handful of side classes on FLVS, not electives but legitimate classes so I have quite a few more credits than most students at my school.

Senior Year Schedule:
AP Micro
AP Macro
AP Gov
AP Comp Gov
AP Calc AB
4th Year Academy class (honors)
English 4 Honors

Extracurriculars:
-Member of many clubs and honor societies (Enviornmental Club, HHS, AHS, FBLA, Model UN)
-Nationally ranked 2015 in top 15 for FBLA, competed at the NLC in Chicago this summer. FIRST YEAR IN CLUB TOO* (3rd in state, 2nd in district)
-VP of Robotics Club
-Have a part time job at a restaurant 20+ hours a week
-200+ community service hours
-Internship at a 5-star hotel
-Played JV lacrosse two seasons

So this is just some of the basic information that’ll be on my application, there is much more but I figure you can get a fairly good idea from the info provided. Some of my friends have got into UF/FSU with much lower SAT’s and comparable GPA but with much less AP’s and honors credits. I also believe my EC’s are very very strong when compared to most students.

Your course load is strong and ECs are good but your SAT could be better. You fall in the average SAT rangeaat UF, so I recommend you take it again to help ensure your acceptance. Overall though, I think you hve a strong shot of getting in. I would say probably around a 70% chance. Good luck. UF: match
FSU: match

I think you have a pretty decent chance at getting into either UF or FSU. Your senior year course load is filled with APs, which will definitely help. While your GPA is a bit low, but the AP classes will definitely help with that. The only thing I would suggest is taking the SAT again, just because your score might increase even more (making you even more competitive). Have you thought about taking the ACT? I think your job experience/internships/volunteer work are definitely a strong plus for your ECs! I personally don’t think you have too much to worry about in terms of whether you’ll get in (especially if you retake the SAT). Good luck!!

Ponte Vedra?

UF is a high match to match. Your GPA (even in a competitive HS) is a bit low. UF doesn’t “use” class rank, but it does like to compare you to your peers in HS. It does consider that some HS’s are more competitive than others, and does accept more students at the better HS. Then again, it also makes an effort to spread acceptances across the state and not just to the better high schools.

UF uses holistic admissions, which, based on your EC’s should work to your advantage, but it does make UF admissions seem a bit random at times. Your GC should be able to give you a better estimate of your chances, based on past performance at your HS.

Good Luck!
