Competitive for UF & FSU?

Going into my senior year in St. Johns County, FL. The #1 public school district in all of Florida. No inflated grades whereas at other FL school districts you can get a 4.0 for just showing up unfortunately.

I’m interested in applying to UF and FSU for the Summer or Fall terms of 2016 (whichever increases my chances). Here are my basic stats:

Intended Major: Accounting/Finance/Business Admin

GPA: 3.8 w, 3.3 uw (slacked freshmen year with some C’s)
SAT: 1980 (not superscored, just one test)
Class Rank: Top 30% (400+ students)
Most Rigorous Schedule* (10+ Honors Classes/6 AP’s)
Business Career Academy Student (Nationally recognized)

Completed AP’s:
Human Geo (5) 9th grade
World History (4) 10th grade
Art History (3) 10th grade
Enviornmental Science (5) 11th grade
Psychology (5) 11th grade
US History (4) 11th grade

I’ve also taken a handful of side classes on FLVS, not electives but legitimate classes so I have quite a few more credits than most students at my school.

Senior Year Schedule:
AP Micro
AP Macro
AP Gov
AP Comp Gov
AP Calc AB
4th Year Academy class (honors)
English 4 Honors

Extracurriculars:
-Member of many clubs and honor societies (Enviornmental Club, HHS, AHS, FBLA, Model UN)
-Nationally ranked 2015 in top 15 for FBLA, competed at the NLC in Chicago this summer. FIRST YEAR IN CLUB TOO* (3rd in state, 2nd in district)
-VP of Robotics Club
-Have a part time job at a restaurant 20+ hours a week
-200+ community service hours
-Internship at a 5-star hotel
-Played JV lacrosse two seasons

So this is just some of the basic information that’ll be on my application, there is much more but I figure you can get a fairly good idea from the info provided. Some of my friends have got into UF/FSU with much lower SAT’s and comparable GPA but with much less AP’s and honors credits. I also believe my EC’s are very very strong when compared to most students.

You have a quite a bit of everything and admissions officers like to see that. It means you are well rounded. Your unweighted gpa is a little low but ok. I’d say you have a great at FSU, but unfortunately UF your unweighted gpa and weighted gpa is low for their average. But try anway. Good luck!!

Definitely competitive for FSU though

FSU you’re probably good but those Cs will be held against you. FSU is known to not accept people who had a killer GPA and scores but received a C at some point. UF on the other hand won’t accept someone who received Cs. They barely accept kids with a couple Bs.

Another knock against your chances at UF is that they spread their admissions across the state taking geography into account. Someone with your stats with but a higher class rank from a rural district will have a better chance of admission.

I can’t speak to college admissions, but make sure you apply for the Bright Futures program around the time you might submit your FAFSA. It’s a state sponsored scholarship program open to all qualifying FL students, and is based solely on merit (GPA & SAT/ACT). I can’t remember the GPA requirement off the top of my head, but since it’s a “sliding scale” you’re most likely good to go.

Your GPA is low for UW and weighted, but your SAT score is is in the ~65-70 percentile. You have twice the required hours for graduation which is good for Florida, and your EC’s are all in line. I’d say you have a chance of admission, but do not get your hopes up too much. Get some safety schools.

Honestly, not so sure about UF. You should be good for FSU though.

“They barely accept kids with a couple of Bs.” That statement is very false.
