Hey, all, I originally posted a chance thread for a few Florida schools a few months back (not here though), but this was before my schedule (particularly Fall B and second semester dual enrollment) was finalized, so I feel as if this will be the most accurate representation of myself so far.
Going in, I know UF is definitely a reach due to my pretty lackluster ECs and volunteer hours, but I’m still holding out some hope I get in.
Here are my stats.
UF GPA: 4.41 (not counting any senior year grades)
College GPA via dual enrollment: Cumulatively a 3.75 with 12 already completed hours; I am currently enrolled in 9 hours for this term.
SAT: 1300 (580 math/720 reading)
Top 11ish% of my class
Completed AP classes: Biology (5), English Language (4), Psychology (5)
Senior schedule:
Spanish IV Honors*
AP Art History
AP English Literature
AP Chemistry
AP US Government/DE Introduction to Humanities
AP Macroeconomics/DE World Civilization to 1600
DE College Algebra/DE Statistical Methods I
DE Personal Finance/DE Introduction to Business
DE Introduction to Computer Concepts/DE Anthropology
Slashes indicate semester classes. It looks kind of masochistic, but honestly, AP Chem and APAH are all that have given me trouble this year, and most of the dual enrollment classes I’m in are electives at the moment. I did end up with all As for the first marking period, though. Also, I take only 5 classes at my HS; the rest are online via FLVS and my CC through Blackboard. I am actually almost done with AP Gov and Macro already, but I do realize that they will be replaced by two new DE classes in a few months. I had to sign up for Spanish IV online about a month into the school year because administration decided to shut it down at my school because only 2 kids (including myself) wanted to take it.
I will have taken a total of 20 AP/DE classes by the time I graduate (all of which were junior and senior year), and as a result, will have a minimum of 53 college credits by the time I enter a university, not counting any senior year AP exams. I probably will take the CLEP exam for Spanish, which can give me an additional 8 or so credits, making a concurrent HS diploma/AA degree possible as well. I have also fulfilled my English, History, and Science Gen Eds, and I am on my way to finishing my math and humanities requirements via the DE classes I am enrolled in this year.
I didn’t take many honors/APs Freshman/Sophomore years due to various scheduling issues, but I piled on the rigor junior year, feeling as if the classes I was in previously did not pose any challenge to me (some of my teachers actually promised me to move me up to Honors classes sophomore year, but said administration wouldn’t let them). Overall, the vast majority of the courses I’ve taken have been Honors or better. With the magic of online classes, I took 4 DE+3 AP+3 Honors last year and got all As except for a B in DE US History I, but the year was very stressful (mostly due to AP English Language and DE US History).
ECs:
Mu Alpha Theta, NHS, Rho Kappa (History Honors Society), another club in which I have a leadership position (I do not want to say what the club is out of fear I will identify myself because it is totally unique to my high school). The latter 2 ECs are relatively new.
Only about 20 hrs community service documented, but rapidly rising thanks to the aforementioned, newly-acquired leadership position.
Awards:
I’ve received 5 academic awards (2 “Principal’s Scholar” awards, and 3 “Outstanding Achievement” awards) at my high school.
Other stuff:
In-state
Large public HS in an affluent neighborhood
I am rather low-income; I am the child of a single, disabled (unemployed) parent who went to UF. Without going into much detail, there were some periods of time in which we didn’t have basic utilities or any money and that negatively impacted my schooling. I’m also an URM (black), but I heard that UF doesn’t really consider legacy or URM in their decisions process.
Thanks for reading. I’m also applying to FSU and USF, and those seem more like matches to me.
