I feel like my Sat scores are a little low, but I think my GPA will help make up for it. I am taking one of the hardest courseload my school offers( 8/9 Ap classes offered for core subjects)
Please let me know what you honestly think.
Your GPA is obviously very good but you’re SAT score is a little low especially because you are OOS.
Thank you, please let me know if you would like me to chance you.
For CoE your composite score and Math score are near the low end of mid50. Are you going to retake SAT or try ACT?
Yeah I plan on it but I’m not sure that I will be able to increase it more that 20 or 30 points
Hello, as a rising senior myself, let me try to offer you some advice. Your GPA and rank are stellar. However, UMich is pretty selective for OOS (out of state) students. I don’t think the rest of your credentials will hurt your chances, but I do think it will be to your advantage to try to improve your SAT score to above 1500. It will also help to take more subject tests in your area of interest.
Also, your ECs do not really reflect a strong spike in your profile. No doubt, you are a very qualified applicant, but you should be more involved in activities that are related to your area of interest. Since you are interested in biomedical engineering, I recommend you get involved in some extracurricular research under college faculty. You may also want to enter some science competitions such as USABO (test), ISEF, Siemens, and others to boost your chances. But I definitely think you can get in! Good luck!
Chance me back please: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20690607#Comment_20690607
Subject tests are neither required nor recommended at UMich. But if subject test scores are submitted, they will consider in for the good of the student. For OP, a higher SAT score particularly in the Math section would be more crucial for CoE admission.
Forget being a multi-sport varsity athlete and class plus student body president with perfect grades, what you need to show is that at age 16 someone gave you the chance to do something meaningful in science when you should not have had anything to contribute as a 16-year old. Being only 98th percentile on your SAT’s is problematic for sure as well. Did you waste time dating or going to church? You need to stop that.
Highly-selective college admissions can seem somewhat of a crapshoot at times, but your resume is terrific. Try to ensure yourself good letters of rec and work on your essays and you will be fine; read a test prep book and take the test again to see if your score might increase. Read this forum too much and you will think all students at a given college are above 75th percentile. This is not Lake Wobegon.
