Chance me for UMich LSA/Ross, USC, Ivy+, UCLA, Berkeley

What are my chances for UMich LSA/Ross (EA), USC, Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Dartmouth, UCLA, and Berkeley

Demographics - Asian male from California

Academics - Applying as Econ/business major (depending on school)

GPA - UW: 3.93, W: 4.33 (received one b+ in freshman and sophomore year), UC W: 4.5

AP Coursework - AP World History, AP Spanish Language, AP Calc AB, AP Microeconomics, AP Psychology (all 4s and 5s)

This year - AP Physics C (Mech and E&M), AP Gov, AP Macroeconomics, AP Stats, AP Calc BC (all As first semester)

Dual Enrollment: Intro to Business (A+), Java Programming (A+)
ACT - 35C

Essays - PS was probably a 7-8/10, but supplementals were really strong in my opinion.

ECs - started my school’s business club, started a program to teach middle school students business which I run at many schools, run my own mini-business selling clothes, four year cross country/track athlete, have been playing/performing guitar for 6 years now, stock market club, some other small things

Awards - National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, High Honors, AP Scholar with Distinction

Rec Letters:

Teacher 1 - I had a high grade in this class. I think the teacher liked me, but he didn’t know me all that well, so it might be slightly impersonal. We did bond over certain things though, like fantasy football. (7/10)

Teacher 2 - I did pretty well in this class. The teacher definitely liked me, and I talked to her a lot outside of school about managing stress, living a balanced life, etc. I do feel like I “grade-grubbed” a bit in this class, but I think she still liked me enough to write me an excellent rec. (8-9/10)

Outside Recommender - One of the principals at the school I run my program at. He has gotten to know me really well, and I think he wrote an awesome letter. (9.5-10/10)

Peer (only Dartmouth) - One of my best friends. He knows me in both an academic and a personal setting, and we are extremely close. I am confident he wrote an amazing letter. (10/10)

You are an excellent applicant and I can tell by the clarity and thoughtfulness of the profile you wrote/shared that your applications will be well done. I think you know this is a very difficult list of schools, but you certainly earned the right to apply to them. I think you will get into 1 or 2 colleges between Michigan/USC (most likely admits) and possibly 1 of the CA state schools, but none of them are safe. Why did you choose teacher 1? Besides it being smaller, add Babson, for a safer school that fits you and will allow you to pursue your passions. More inline with your list, add Wisconsin - or IU as a super-safety, still with solid UG b-schools. Agree with your strategy that econ is ok for ivy’s/Stanford but otherwise you should get the business major. Hope this helps.

Congratulations on your achievements.

I can’t chance you, but all of the schools your list are reaches, some higher than others. Only send the principal rec to schools that allow a third rec letter.

Make sure you have a balanced list with a handful of target schools and at least one affordable safety. Are all of these schools affordable per their net price calculator?

Good luck.

You are a competitive and qualified applicant. Did you apply to any Safety/Likely schools besides the ones listed?

Below is some UC admit statistical data to help determine your chances. Econ is a selective/impacted major for both UC’s.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above capped weighted and not major specific:

UCB: 38%

UCLA: 35%

2020 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range: [/b]

UCB: 4.22 (4.13-4.30)

UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.31)

Best of luck.

Were your B+ grades in English freshman and sophomore year and why didn’t you take AP English?

P.S. I love your moniker.

Okay, great thank you so much!

Thank you!

Hey thanks for the stats.

I did apply and was accepted to ASU and the University of Minnesota already as safeties. I also applied to all the other UCs (excluding Riverside and Merced), as well as Cal Poly, so I’m kinda counting those as safeties.

Yes, my b+ was in english freshman year and ap world sophomore year.

And thank you lol.

The UC’s tend to be unpredictable so I would not count on the rest of the UC’s and Cal Poly SLO as Safeties. Yes you are a highly competitive applicant, but perhaps UCSC as a LIkely/Safety while the rest as Target/Match schools.

Ahh okay that makes sense, given the hyper-competitiveness in California lol. thanks!
