EDIT: In-State, Wake County, White Male. Non-Competitive public high school.

Yes on State, high maybe on UNC, especially if you’re in state.

Your stats and accomplishments are good. One never knows about UNC admissions, but the nomination for M-C is pretty significant and would stand in your favor.
I personally (am not an adcom) think you are in good shape for your school choices, and they are all good ones.

You did not list UNC Charlotte. The Levine scholarship is quite a privilege. I would consider it heavily if you got it.

No offense to NYU- a wonderful school- but the additional cost of attendance- tuition, room, board, cost of living, transportation is significant compared to the other schools on your list.

I assume you have/will apply to all of them. See what happens and then decide. One never knows but I expect you will have some good options to choose from.

ifoundalaska: I am in-state and I added some more demographics within the edit. I also applied Early Action for all of them save NYU.

Pennylane2011: I did apply to UNCC and the Levine Scholarship, but I feel confident that I’ll get into the school. NYU would be a school I may apply to only if I stand a chance of getting a significant amount of money shaved off my expenses via financial aid (highly unlikely given my families income bracket) or merit scholarships.

Does NYU even give merit aid? Nothing wrong with applying to a dream school, but in the end, finances are part of it. Check the info on scholarships and if it is affordable or not. If not, the schools on your list are all good.
I think you will get into UNCC too, ( as if anyone could predict admissions) and although it is the least selective of the choices, a scholarship like Levine may provide good opportunities.
At this point, you’ve applied. Now comes the wait which is never easy. Hopefully you will hear you’ve been accepted from one of them soon.

Pennylane: I have no idea in regards to NYU, but I know that my Mom will most likely not let me apply there due to the fact that she doesn’t want me to leave the State.

Thanks for all the replies! :)

Good chances at NYU. NYU gives aid in a very particular way - it’s based on need and merit. Go to the NYU thread here on CC to read my explanation of NYU aid.

Alright NYU2013, Thanks!

bump bump bump

EDIT: I’m also 1st generation

I think you should be good at all of those, especially since you’re in-state. I applied to UNC-CH from OOS, so hopefully I have as good a shot as you, lol. Chance me back!

Thanks for the advice! More opinions are appreciated.

NCSU: Safety
UNC: High match
NYU: Match

For clarification, is a high match closer to safety or reach? I always get those confused.

There is no plausible reason as to why you wouldn’t get into State. I’d give you a go on UNC-Ch too, I’ve seen a lot of people with lower stats get in.

You have a great class rank and ECs! I would be a little more concise with them, though, as the list does get a little tedious. Overall, better-than-average chances at UNC-CH, good chances at NYU, and you have the best chance of getting into NC State. Be prepared to shell out a lot of money if you end up picking (and getting accepted to) NYU though; their financial aid packages are known to be pretty frugal!
Chance me back? I don’t know how to attach the link haha but it would be appreciated!

Thanks guys! I know this may not be abled to be answered unless you are knowledgable with counties in NC but does me being in Wake County affect my chances?

You have great chances, you’re a very solid applicant and your in-state status is going to be very helpful. I’d say NCSU: Safety, UNC: Match and NYU: Match
Good luck. Chance me back if you can, thanks.

That’s a question your GC and/or admissions may know the answer to. Colleges will look at the rigor of your high school and also how you did there. I don’t know if UNC draws equally from all areas of NC, or NC in general. Wake County will be more competitive than a rural one- there will be more students who have access to advanced courses to choose from, but how this affects you is not possible to predict. Does your school use Naviance? That way you can see how you are compared to others from your school.
Regardless, there are no guarantees for anyone to be admitted to UNC. They have been known to turn down valedictorians in, and outside NC. It’s become a highly selective school. You have a good chance, but estimating beyond that is not possible.
You’re chances are good at NCSU and your GC should know if they select regionally throughout NC.

Even though UNC is a high match, you still have a shot for that school…

Thanks for the replies! I was just notified I got accepted into UNC-Charlotte!
