In-State
First Generation
In a competitive county, but in a really non-competitive school.

Bump 10char

bump 10char

You should get into ECU and NC State. NC State could be a little harder if you are applying to one of their more selective programs (Engineering, Design, Textiles), but you still look good. UNC is always hard. Your stats fall into their middle 50%, so you have a decent shot. Improve those SAT scores and do a really good job on your essays. I have a child at UNC and NCSU and both schools are great! Good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

bump 10char

one last bump. Also, UW GPA is actually 3.625

Forgot about my AP Exams
AP English Language: 5
AP European History: 3
AP Psychology: 4 (Took as a sophomore)

For NCSU and ECU, your stats are very solid (with the noted exceptions for State’s ultra competetive schools)… Chapel Hill will depend on your application. For an in-state student, you are squarely slotted in the middle 50% range for in-state students. The exception I see is possibly your unweighted GPA. That is, however, offset somewhat by your overall class rank. Your comment that you are “In a competitive county, but in a really non-competitive school” is curious to me. Do students from your high school perform well at Chapel Hill? The admissions team may look at that as a predictor of your success.

UNC really does take time to read through each application. So, in addition to pure statistics, they do as they say in that they try to find out about each student through their application essays, review of leadership roles in you ECs, etc.

Some valuable information can be found at Carolina’s addmissions blog:

Also, here is some info on the UNC’s Class of 2016:

If you are strongly considering UNC, work toward A’s in your upcoming classes, look for strong leadership roles in your EC activities and focus on producing a strong and creative application.

Best of luck to you!
