Hey everyone! UNC Chapel Hill is my first choice school and I want to see if I have a good chance since I applied early.
I am an instate student and I attend a dual enrollment school and most of the classes I took 9th/10th/11th were honors.

I know my test scores are a bit low, but I still think it’s worth a shot:)
Good thing you’re instate so your low end ACT score won’t hurt you too bad. However, you are below their 25% margin for that. So taking that into consideration I think you’re probably looking at a decent chance still, just because of your high GPA and showing that you can take college classes and hopefully excel. I think you have a good chance good luck!
I applied there as my number 1 school E.A. and my ACT is only 28 and my GPA is like a 4.4 basically same boat as you, except I’m OOS so I probably won’t get in but I’m hoping my URM and family circumstances gets me in!
@kaynab
I don’t know why your counselor told you to send your SAT score…your ACT score is technically higher than your SAT.
Also remember that you CAN send both scores, and UNC will select which one will gives you a better advantage along with superscoring it.
Also how does your grading system work? Is your GPA out of 5 or 6? If there’s no AP classes shouldn’t it be out of 4 or 4.5?

@kaynab I think you have a shot. Though your test scores are a bit low, UNC reads the entire application. Hopefully your essays let UNC know what all you have to offer and how well you will fit in. Best of luck to you.
@adepani3112 - Your stats look good for an in-state applicant although your SAT is a bit on the low end (probably about the 30th percentile). Your ECs are strong and congratulations on your Interact success along with your RYLA experience. Thank you for your civic involvement through Rotary and Interact (and yes, I am an Intract alumnus and a current Rotarian, of course!). Best of luck to you.
Your course load looks good and if your AP scores are strong (4s & 5s) you can earn several credit hours
Weighted GPA looks very good (over 4.5 is desirable) - You should be highly ranked in your class (top 10?)
How is your school’s reputation for placing quality/successful students to UNC? That may help a bit too.
ECs look very good
As I mentioned, your SAT scores are a bit low but not a deal breaker
Being in-state of course is a big plus
If you have good essays, sell yourself as an asset to UNC’s incoming class and have a good story to tell, I think your chances are very good. My D had a similar resume, got in and has thrived. Best of luck to you!
@adepani3112 - D’s stats were 1220 on the SAT, 3.93 unweighted GPA, 4.65 weighted, ranked 6th in a class of 385, took ive or six AP classes (with good scores on all but statistics!). Student council, Interact and various other civic minded clubs. cheerleading captain, community & church involvement (various mission trips, hurricane Katrina relief, e.g.). Two 2 week international exchange in Germany. Her essays were solid and quite enthusiastic.
I worried about how she would perform at UNC given its size and the intellectual strength of her class. She succeeded due to her dedication to the process, her collaborative efforts with faculty and students along with a lot of hard work. She also has had a great social life and has made life-long friends. She graduated in 2016 with distinction and is currently in a Master’s program at Carolina.
I still visit this site this time of year to read about the excitement of prospective students and to encourage them during the long wait until decisions are released. Best of luck to you and all who have applied.
