College apps are tiring so I would like to narrow down my choices. Thank you!
What’s your intended major? What’s your passion? If you don’t have a specific reason to apply to both UNC and UVA, then I would take out one if I were you.
Do you have any hooks? I’m afraid that 29 is just a slight but low for Emory and UNC/UVA OOS. If you’ve already decided that the ACT is best for you, definitely study and take another one if you have time. Other than that your ECs look great and keep in mind your essays/recs will be very important
@SamChang Thank you! I’m interested in applying as a business major with mathematics as my second choice. I would take the ACT again but I’m currently a senior and it’s too late.
You probably know that both UVa & UNC have caps on their OOS students, so the standards are considerably higher than the stats you can find online.
Your GPA is super, but as @SamChang points out your ACT is very low for all of them. None of your ECs show any longer term commitment (2 years max), and being certified in MS Office is not going to be seen as an ‘honor’. Obviously, we don’t know anything more about you and what would make you stand out, but I have seen in-state candidates with stronger stats & ECs get waitlisted at UVa.
If you are determined to choose a reach school from these I would take UVa > UNC, simply b/c their cap on OOS is higher (UNC has a max of 18%, and that includes recruited athletes). UVa v Emory would depend on what your longer term goals are, and whether you particularly like one or the other of them.
