I am a rising high school senior in Florida. I am also dual enrolled at my local state college and I’m on track to graduate with a associates degree in addition to my high school diploma. My high school GPA is a 3.56 unweighted and a 4.11 weighted. My college GPA is a 3.62. My SAT score is a 1330 and my ACT is a 27. I am also an editor for my school’s yearbook, the president of Digital Design club, and an intern for a creative media company. What are my chances of being accepted into the University of Florida?
high match
Like I tell everyone who wants to know their chance of getting into a particular school–I would recommend doing a little bit of research on any school you have in mind. Their mean, 25th, and 75th percentile SAT/ACT scores can surprisingly tell you a lot about whether you would be a good fit for the school. Another thing I’ve noticed (for most of the Ivies, at least) is that they really stress about the fact that they’re looking for someone who would be a good match for the school. What I’ve gathered it to mean is they’ll look at your application to determine if your mission statements align with theirs (take a look at those, most likely on their website somewhere, to see if you exemplify each of the points).
That said, collegesimply. com/colleges/florida/university-of-florida/admission/ (remove space) is the list of SAT/ACT percentiles for University of Florida. Your 1330 SAT puts you right at the average (admission chances at around 45-50%), and your 27 ACT is right below that (admission chances at 35%). Their average GPA is 4.1, so you’re just above that. Based on this, you can probably bring yourself up a little more by strengthening some of your ECs, and you can settle for U of F as a safety/target school.
For 2018, UF had a 36% acceptance rate:
Your GPA is a bit low (and GPA is more important in UF’s holistic admissions than test scores), so UF is not a sure thing, like a high match/low reach school.
Non-academic factors are also very important (about 50% of UF’s holistic admissions), so strong ECs, volunteering, etc., could greatly improve your chances.
In addition, if you do earn your AA, you may get a second chance at admissions. UF doesn’t consider major, in freshman admissions. However, if a freshman student is not accepted as a normal freshman, but the student has already earned an AA in HS, they will send the application on to the individual college. The college then will make the decision on acceptance.
So, as an AA HS student, your choice of major may influence your chance at acceptances.
Good Luck!
SAT score is good. GPA a bit low. Your ECs are pretty good though. I think that UF is a high match school. You stand a solid chance, especially if your essays are good.
