UMich - Early Action
Northwestern - ED
University of Illinois - Business Program
UIC
Loyola - Chicago
NYU Stern
IU Kelley
WashU
Tufts
UCs -
UCLA
Berkeley

I am pretty involved in the community and school so that is definitely something I am confident I have been highlighting well in my applications in a unique way. I also just retook the ACT, and I also signed up for October just in case. I hope to improve my score, but do give me thoughts even with my current score as well.

Stats:
GPA: ~3.77UW 4.68W (top 3% ranking at a very large public school, extremely rigorous course load)
10APs by the time of graduation.
ACT: 29C (33E, 34M, 24R, 25S) April test (29R, 26S) (Taking in Oct. again)
Superscore: 31

Goals: I want to get into the business field/finance/entrepreneurship space.

Extracurriculars:

Published a children's book available at local bookstores and pretty big online platforms (think Amazon, Barnes/Nobles).

Founded the first ever entrepreneurs organization for students in our community which has been pretty successful. I organized some cool speakers and we have been featured in some pretty big media publications.

Interned for a summer at a congressional office

Interned for a summer in social media at pretty cool start-up (this inspired a lot of my interest in entrepreneurship)

Ranked among the top five young women in the state through a national organization

Represented as a delegate at Girls State

President of the Exec. Board Student Council (this is a huge time commitment as our school, and I have definitely been moving up the ladder quite a bit here. Fortunately, our school principal will be writing one of my recommendations so I am confident she can highlight my contributions pretty well).

Served on council for Principle's advisory committee, launched/led a few unique student committees for our school programs, recreated our student council website.

Graduating from an internationally recognized 7-year dance program

NHS, MHS, DECA - State Qualifier for two consecutive years.

Bump!

You have good ECs, but the area that may end up hurting you is your test scores. If you have the opportunity, I’d retest and shoot for a 32.
But if that isn’t possible, I’d suggest working really hard on your essays and making sure they’re stellar.

Based on your current stats:

Michigan EA - High Match
Northwestern ED - Reach
UIUC Business - High Match/Low Reach
NYU Stern - Reach
WashU - Reach
Tufts - Reach
UCLA - Low Reach
Berkeley - Low/Moderate Reach

But if you were to raise that ACT a couple points, I’d say you’d have a decent shot at any of them.

Dreamingbig: You would be a direct admit to Kelley at both campuses with your super score ACT and GPA. At Kelley Bloomngton you would get $6,000 (in-state) and if you kept a 3.75 GPA offered into the Honors college after 2 years (I think). At Kelley Indianapolis you would get $8000 (in-state) + a one time $2500 travel abroad stipend.Since it’s the Honors college who does the scholarships there you would automatically be in the Honors college which might be a bonus.

Your extra curricular activities also set you up to be a contender for full rides like the Selective at Bloomington and the Bebko at Indianapolis. The campuses are very different but the curriculum is the same. The reach is different too. Since there isn’t much in Bloomington, but the school is excellent, there are many chances to meet recruiters from across the US. In Indianapolis the offices are blocks away for many of the companies and a lot of practical placements happen in terms of contacts and internships.

Both options are top 10. One of the reasons why Kelley has great appeal.

Thanks for the advice @Thompson2004‌ and @Goodkidsdad‌ My Sister attended NYU Stern for Undergrad and just graduated last May. Does that count as legacy? Any ideas of improving my chances for NYU Stern?

@Goodkidsdad‌ I also read that you need a 30 composite to be directly admitted into IU Kelley… Would they count my superscore for that as well, or would they consider only my 29 Composite?

Also, I am in state for UIUC…

OK as direct admit at both campuses with super score. You would be directly admitted to the Honors college Indianapolis campus. I only know Indiana schools but Kelley at both locations gets jobs!

Just an FYI, your stats are almost exactly what my son’s were. He is at Kelly Indianapolis Honors Program as we speak kicking butt as a freshman.

Thanks @Goodkidsdad‌ does IU Kelley have different Requirements for the Honors College at the Indiana location?

Yes, you must maintain a 3.7 for 2 years or 26 credits (I think) before you can apply at Bloomington. You must apply with current transcripts and essays to get in.

<a href=“Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley”>Undergraduate | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley;

The criteria across the board for the Indianapolis is going up but you are in for this year. Again, it’s because the scholarships come from the Honors college not from the school itself. Nevertheless you get in Honors right now to a top 10 business school.

<a href=“Forbidden: Error: Honors College: IUPUI”>http://honorscollege.iupui.edu/scholarships/</a></p>

You do have interesting EC, however, your GPA and ACT are rather weak for top schools. UCs, NU, and UMich would be reaches. UIUC would be your best bet and it may be a high match as your ACT 29 is right at the 25th percentile. However, they do some sort of superscoring. So make sure you send all ACT scores in.

UCs, NU, Umich - reaches
UIUC - match, maybe a reach?
Try to retake the ACT if you can.
Good luck!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1678006-chances-at-cmu-scs-ill-chance-back.html#latest</a></p>

For what it is worth IU-Kelley is ranked higher for its undergraduate program than is NYU-Stern. Kelley is ranked #8 while Stern is #14:
<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?;

For MBA, Kelley maintains a slight edge at #15 compared to Stern at #16
<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?;

Not that such rankings should be taken too seriously. However, it does make clear that there is not a wide gap between the two schools. On the other hand, if you want to work in the NYC metro area after graduation, then Stern probably is a better choice.

Thats a good point. It does depend on where you want to end up. Kelley Bloomington does a good job exposing graduates to Top firms in New York, Dallas etc. Kelley Indianapolis is inextricably connected to the Midwest locations of the top National firms and top tier Regional firms. Either way your chances of getting a great job is REALLY high!

It also highlights that different schools have different reach. Make sure you know that going in. A lot to think about for an 18 year old kid.

Bump!

Dreamingbig: I gave you all I know in post # 3. Either Kelley campus is going to set up your future. One is a large rural campus with excellent credentials. The other, is urban and getting discovered as a great option.

Both are Kelley.

OP… FYI, IUB Kelley is not the same as IUPUI anymore than UIUC is the same as UIChicago.

The high rankings for Kelley refer to the Bloomington campus program which has different standards of admission.

Good luck in your apps. You should do well.

The high rankings at Kelley Bloomington undergrad are because that is where it was chartered and they are well deserved .Much like many of the MBA programs at Kelley Indianapolis are ranked even higher and they were chartered there. So the argument I keep hearing about where WHERE they are rated just doesn’t apply. Or at least should apply both ways. That is exactly why you dont see ratings for Indianapolis Kelley separated off or at all (didn’t open until 1969). The undergrad program for Kelley is ranked 8th in the country. Both campuses have the Kelley undergrad program.

Admission criteria are determined by demand as well as ratings and quality. Kelley Bloomington does have stricter admission criteria now. Demand is high.

A lot of people dont know about the Indianapolis Kelley therefore demand is lower.

Michigan EA - High Match
Northwestern ED - Reach
UIUC Business - Low Match
NYU Stern - Match
WashU - Match
Tufts - Match
UCLA - High Reach
Berkeley - High Reach

^ With GPA below admission average and ACT below 25th percentile, UMich cannot be any kind of match.
