Chance me for Upenn, Columbia, Barnard, etc (Ill chance back!)

<p>Hi! I'm a rising High School Senior who's interested in the following schools:
1. UPenn (VERY interested in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major they offer, as well as the Kelly Writer's House)
2. Columbia (Brother attends, as did Grandfather, Grandmother, several Aunts and Uncles)
3. Barnard
I'm trying to decide which of these three to apply early decision to, leaning toward Barnard.
4. Tulane
5. NYU
6. U-Wash (Seattle)
7. UC Berkeley
If you want to recommend other schools that you think might be a good fit, don't hesitate! I'm especially keen on big-city schools.</p>

<p>A quick NB before I launch into the litany of stats, etc----I spent 2.5 years living abroad in Sydney so my information may look a but wonky. The most confusing part of my application is the fact that I skipped 10th grade in Sydney, completed 11th grade there, but upon moving back to DC I redid half of 11th grade (the school year Down Under runs from Jan-Dec). I'll try to make things as clear as possible below. </p>

<p>Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
Class Rank: Top 15%
Schooling: 9th and 11th Grade in a small Sydney private school, half of 11th grade and 12 grade in a small magnet school in DC (I moved to DC in January 2013)
GPA: 3.9
SAT: 2220 (CR 760 M 660 W 800)
SAT 2: Lit 780, will take US History in Oct
APs: None are offered in Sydney, but when I moved to DC I started AB Calc, Environmental Science, and Lang. I got a 3, 4, and 5 on the tests respectively, after having taken the courses for half a year.
Next year I'll be taking AP Lit, Psych, Us History, and Art History, as well as Honors Physics, Gym (required), DC History (required), Senior Project (a year-long research assignment)
Prospective Major in College: English/Political Science</p>

<p>ECs (Sydney)
Theater (performed in 6 shows in my 2.5 years living in Sydney, with semi-professional theater groups)
Debate
On the advisory board for Australian Theater for Young People
On the youth advisory board for Griffin Theater Company</p>

<p>Jobs (Sydney)
Freelance Correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald (had articles published online and in-print)
Worked at McDonalds for 1.5 years
Counselor during holidays for Australian Theater for Young People workshops</p>

<p>ECs (DC)
Debate Team (have one many awards, both individual and team)
Current Events Editor for School Paper
Founder of Philosophy Club</p>

<p>Jobs (DC)
Correspondent for Hill Rag Magazine (I do play and music reviews, and also cover local topics and community issues)
Marketing Assistant at Coldwell Banker Realty </p>

<p>Let me know if you want any more info on me! This was a pretty cursory overview of what I'll be punching into CommonApp.</p>

<p>Your ECs definitely show your interests and dedication, so that should help a lot. Your rank percentile might hurt you a little bit, but given that you were abroad they hopefully will take that into consideration.</p>

<p>UPenn: reach
2. Columbia: reach
3. Barnard: don’t know a lot about
4. Tulane: match
5. NYU: match
6. U-Wash (Seattle): don’t know a lot about
7. UC Berkeley: high match</p>

<p>I think great essays will definitely make or break your app, but you’re clearly very dedicated to writing so I imagine yours will be great! Best of luck to you!</p>

<p>Chance me back?</p>

<p>You look like a great applicant for all the schools
I would do ED Columbia because you have multiple legacies there and they only really give priority to legacies during the ED round</p>

<p>Also make sure you’ve done the subject tests required for each school apply to (I think you need math for Penn) </p>

<p>UPenn-reach
Columbia- low reach if you do ED with legacy, otherwise reach
Barnard (not sure)
Tulane- safety
NYU- match
UCB- match</p>

<p>Oh and chance me back please!

<p>Penn: reach
Columbia: high reach
Barnard: low reach/high match
Tulane: match
NYU: high match
University of Washington: not too familiar with the school but match maybe?
UC Berkeley: reach</p>

<p>thanks for chancing me!!</p>

<p>Penn: low reach
Columbia: reach
Barnard: not too familiar
Tulane: match
NYU: high match
Washington: people at my school were accepted with an app similar to yours
UC Berkeley: pretty solid match</p>

<p>Thanks for chancing me! :)</p>

<p>Hey, I don’t have the best qualifications to chance you, but I would say
Penn: reach/low reach
Columbia: low reach (nice legacy)
NYU: match</p>

<p>Sorry, I’m not too familiar with the other schools… Thanks for chancing btw</p>

<p>We have pretty similar stats I’d say so idk maybe i’ll just say what everyone says to me. You have a good chance but it’s a crapshoot :/</p>

<p>Forgot to add two things! </p>

<p>EC—Took Intro to Sociology at GW and received an A, will take Mathematics and Politics at GW in addition to my Senior course load next fall </p>

<p>Job–internship at Theater J in Washington DC</p>

<p>Thanks for chancing me :)</p>

<p>here:</p>

<p>1: UPenn: reach (on the low side)
2. Columbia: reach on the low side)
3. Barnard: match/high match
4. Tulane: match
5. NYU: match
6. U-Wash (Seattle): safety or low match, to be honest!
7. UC Berkeley: high match</p>

<p>Good luck!!</p>

<p>looks good! ECs are interesting and cool. SAT score is okay, and GPA is good. You look like a good match for most of these schools!</p>

<p>You have fantastic ECs, and stats wise you look on par, I think you have a reach in upenn and match with everything else. And legacy status for Columbia? Way cool.</p>

<p>Chance me please!

<p>Hey, great job thus far! You have a very strong, well rounded application. Your international experiences stand out in particular. Nonetheless, there is nothing truly truly truly unique about you, which would be fine except the schools are so tough! But still, you’ve got a great shot!

  1. UPenn- Reach (Low reach if you decided to ED)
  2. Columbia- Honestly I have no idea how much legacy helps, probably a lot ED
  3. Barnard- High match/low reach (Match through ED)
  4. Tulane- Low match
  5. NYU- Low match
  6. U-Wash (Seattle)- Safety
  7. UC Berkeley- Match</p>

<p>Best of luck!</p>

<p>Chance me? <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517874-summer-chances-yale-brown-etc.html[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1517874-summer-chances-yale-brown-etc.html&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I’ll chance anyone back so keep hitting me with the responses!</p>

<p>UW- match/safety- not sure how many they let in from out of state, but your stats are definitely above the 75th percentile. (From WA state btw)</p>

<p>Hi,
your ECs are pretty strong and the only weakness I see in your app is your class rank and sat for Columbia or UPenn. you seem to be very dedicated to what you are doing however, so I would say that strong essays would put you in a good position for these schools!</p>

<ol>
<li><p>UPenn: reach</p></li>
<li><p>Columbia: low reach?</p></li>
<li><p>Barnard: match</p></li>
<li><p>Tulane: safety</p></li>
<li><p>NYU: high match</p></li>
<li><p>UC Berkeley: high match</p></li>
</ol>

<p>I live in Seattle and I would say you are a safety for UW.</p>

<p>Thanks! My parents are a but doubtful that Tulane/NYU/UWashington are safeties, any more thoughts?</p>
