100+ Service Hours: Ronald McDonald House, local elementary school where I work with underprivileged kids, Homeless Shelter

I am planning to do a 120 hour internship at my local museum in either the Health, Zoology, or Earth Sciences where I would be doing research.

Teacher Recommendations:
The first one is from my Chemistry and Biology teacher from sophomore and junior year. She also moderates WISH club which I spend several hours doing stuff for a week.

The second is from my English teacher from my junior year, He is also my Cross Country coach.

I am very close with both.

Personal Essay: I am going to write about my experience with my dad’s ALS during my sophomore, junior, and senior and how this inspired my passion and drive for medicine and challenged me to become a better person. I’m not sure about the direction of the essay but it should be really good.

Work on improving the ACT score. Other than that, you may have a good chance! Your class rank should also be in the 10%, because some schools tend to inflate GPA’s (which means class rank/class rigor can have more weight than GPA alone).

My school doesn’t rank students. They do, however, send colleges a report which states that juniors who have a 4.33 GPA are in the top 5% of the class and my current GPA is a 4.6. Does this help my chances?

Not sure then. If the whole school gets above 4.33, does that mean they are all in the top 5%? Is the 4.33 based off of last year’s statistics? You never know. Anyways, it’s up to the admissions to decide. Work hard this year if you’re planning on ED!

^^ Your post doesn’t make sense. If the whole school got above 4.33, how could they all be in the top 5%? By definition, the person(s) with the gpa closest to 4.33 would be at the bottom of the class and nowhere near the top 5%.

Your grades and scores are great! I would concentrate on using this summer to perhaps take a chemistry/bio course at a community college or contact a hospital and see if you can intern for a dept /DR … I have read Ivies love to see students utilize their summers specific to their passions and educating themselves in their interests… You are looking for something the average Joe/Jane wouldn’t do with their summer and connect it to your area of interest… the internship is god as long as your research gets published even if its just you writing an article an submitting it to Huffington Post… you need to be published in your research…

@Falcon1 No, What I read was that his school automatically reports any GPA above 4.33 as the top “5%” of GPA’s.
