Your SAT falls right above UPenn’s average. Your GPA is fine as long as your unweighted is somewhere near a 4.0 (3.85-4.0). I don’t believe that AP’s are really considered in college admissions. The only thing that they would count for is college credit(s). Check on UPenn and Columbia’s website for the exact details. 50 hours of community service is average - nothing special. Aside from your varsity positions and awards in various sports, your EC’s don’t stand out as something that would make the admissions office say “wow!” The lack of state and national awards in the activities to take part in, aside from sports, limits the admissions board in determining whether or not you’re truly passionate about the EC’s you’re in. Writing about them will help, and if you’re able to get good enough recommendations with your essay’s as well I’d still say you have a fair shot at both schools. Don’t let some downsides keep you from applying. (Almost) Everyone has a chance.
Good luck!
Your stats look great, your ECs are quite good- Honestly, your chances are above average for either of those schools.
Make sure your essays are representative of who you are and decide which teachers you’re planning to ask for recs. Best of luck!
Your app looks just fine- in fact, better than most! I think your math wins and quals demonstrate significant commitment and passion for the subject. Your chances are fine. Spend this time working on essays that really let your personality shine through.
What’s your UW GPA?
3.98
For Penn, you’d have a significantly better shot applying ED, though ED isn’t necessarily the best option should you be applying for financial aid.
Does winner of a varsity letter simply mean that you were in varsity? I’m not familiar with this term.
@realtrophies222 yes. It just means credit for being on varsity for however many years.
@DavidB11 you have decent stats but nothing particularly stands out. Focus on writing a good essay and you have a shot, but nothing is guaranteed at any top level school, especially an Ivy.
Yes
Your academic qualifications are pretty outstanding, so the only thing I would suggest is for you to take some SAT II subject tests in your area of interest (related to your intended major). Your ECs however (besides the sports) look pretty generic and varied. They don’t show your interest in a particular field of study, which is what ivies usually want to see. Furthermore, they are pretty generic in that none of them really stand out. Your qualifications are pretty good and competitive but overall they are typical of an average Ivy applicant (and the average Ivy applicant has a <10% of acceptance). You should still definitely apply since your academic qualifications look really good! You have a good chance of getting into CMU and NYU! All the Ivies are reaches no matter how high your grades are, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you ended up getting into them. Your extracurriculars are really good! Good luck with college applications.
Your test scores are slightly below average at the schools you are listing, but not low enough that you should consider retaking. Grades are great. Your EC’s are good, but I would keep participating in math activities to show you are interested in math.
Not looking too hot for you buddy
Thank you for your valuable input
I think that you have awesome grades, but everyone applying to these schools has amazing grades. I think you should work on trying to have some part of your application having a tie to what you intend to do in college. Also, a great part of your application is your essays since it’s really the one time you can show your personality. Try to make them really personal and put a face and personality to these numbers and stats. Overall just based on these stats, I think you have an average chance about 5%-10% of getting accepted.
