Chance me please, will chance back!

bump!!!

Ok, I may seem rude but I’d rather you hate me than get denied.

-Not impressed with GPA. It doesn’t matter how hard your school is if they don’t rank.
-Scores are fine, but you need two SAT II scores with 750+.
-No evidence of leadership within your school
-I see no academic passion in your ECs

I would aim lower. Colleges have thousands of internationals to pick from and your GPA will kill you.

@wallrus75: My school doesn’t rank, but it gives out the average class performance, which in my class, is low 60s; not sure if that’ll help.
About the SAT II scores, yes, i’m considering giving Math 1 in December again.
As for leadership, I’m the editor of the school’s English magazine. Aside from that, I don’t have any school leadership positions cause I’ve joined my school only recently, and positions are mostly given to kids who’ve been here for all of high school.
And for the ECs, I know it doesn’t count as much, but i’ve done some out of syllabus research in Economics(my tentative major) and I’ve had 3 articles published in the annual Eco Magazine of our school.

Math I isn’t impressive even if you get 800, especially if you want to go into economics.

For few colleges, maybe. Contrary to popular opinion, Math 1 is considered a ‘proper’ SAT Subj. Test in most top schools. :)

No, it is not…

Here are top schools that recommend taking Math 2, not math 1. Please just don’t make up bull **** and claim that what you are doing is proper. I beg you to find any school that requires math 1 and does not take math 2.

Berkeley - low reach

@wallrus: Look, I never said Math 2 isn’t preferred over Math 1. Sure it is. That does not imply, however, that Math 1 isn’t considered. And yes, ‘few’ (as i mentioned earlier.) colleges do not consider Math 1, and those colleges are not among my list, as you can see. So please read my posts before making claims  Thank you for your time.

UC Berkeley, UCLA and UCSD do not require SAT 2s, but they consider some of them. None of the three will consider your Math 1 - but they will consider Math 2. [University of California - SAT Subject Tests](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/SAT-subject-tests/index.html)

None of the UCs list Math 1 as something they will consider.

As far as chances, with no AP or IB I would think you would need a bunch of SAT2s to show subject mastery.

Let’s use some common sense. If you want to go into math based major, which you are, and colleges see that you weren’t willing to take Math II, that will hurt your chances in itself. Yes, math I may be seen as legitimate (or sat wouldn’t even offer it…), but you will be going against a lot of people who have 780+ on math II. These schools accept the best and most passionate, and taking the easier of the two math tests does not show confidence, ability, or passion.

1)UPenn. - no, sorry mate
2)UChicago - probably no
3)Brown - no
4)Duke - probably no
5)USC - low reach
6)NYU - high match
7)UCB - low reach
8)UCLA - low reach
9)UCSD - low reach
10)Boston Univ. - match
I was not too impressed with your ECS, but based upon your test scores and GPA, here is my OPINION. Take it with a grain of salt considering i am also an applicant (NOT an admissions officer or college student).

Here’s the thing guys, Im an international student and the place where i come from is VERY academic oriented. I havent had the CHANCE to do more in terms of ECs because my school does not offer much. Im sure the adcoms will have an idea about this… Ive taken the most rigorous courses my school offers, and ive done the utmost i can in terms of ECs, while still balacing my time with academics.

As for math 1, since I’m applying for a social science major, and not a science oriented one, I think it should be sufficient.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using CC

Colleges don’t know how many ECs are offered at your school and they expect that if you don’t have anything you can do, you’ll find something.
