I know I am not completely stellar. I’m probably pretty average, but I just want a good enough spark to get me in there. I know Georgetown is probably a huge reach. I’m scared to aim any higher than that. Please be honest, but don’t bully.

Other schools: In-state schools that I’m pretty secure in, George Washington University, Texas A and M.

I’m more career-focused than the name tbh. I want to end up becoming a forensics pathologist, which requires med school, so I don’t know if I should be tearing my hair out now…

Sorry for the bad format!

@Igotbighair It’s so hard to determine who will get in and who won’t based on stats but my D got into both schools for Fall 2015 and her stats were 2050 SAT and 4.0 UW GPA, 4.65 W. She also took speech and debate her senior yr and it was her only non-AP class. USC doesn’t put a lot of weight on quantity of volunteer hours anymore. I know this to be a fact because I know the head of admissions for the athletic dept and she told me that EVERYONE has so many hours that it just doesn’t mean anything anymore. She equated it to “white noise”. She said as long as you do something for the community/world that is meaningful to you, that is more important than hours. I truly believe that the reason my D got into both of those schools, when up against so many kids with higher stats, was her essays and her interviews. The Georgetown interviewer was so impressed with my D that she told her she was her top female applicant in the SoCal area and would be conveying that to the admissions board. We were actually shocked that she got in because they “strongly suggest” that you take 3 SAT subject tests, but 2 are required. She only took 2 and we thought that would be a negative against her but it wasn’t. Take your time on your essays and get them read and edited lots of times! Don’t try to answer anything with what you think they want to hear. And be funny and humorous in those quick-answer section on the USC app because I think that helped my D too. She was just trying to be herself and not take it too seriously or stress out about saying the right thing. She got into USC Viterbi for Mech Engineering, UCLA same, and Georgetown for Government, among many other UC’s and Cali schools. She chose USC! I’d be happy to answer any questions you have during your application process…Good Luck!!

@Igotbighair oh and she was rejected at the ivy’s…Harvard, Yale (although she made it past the ED round with a deferral) and non-ivy Stanford. I actually regret that she even applied to those without having much higher SATs but she thought she’d try. It just puts a LOT more pressure with more essays so I think you are correct to say you might not want to go higher than GT. (even though GT is just about an ivy!)
