Chance me for UT BHP? Please and Thank You

RewindPlayback, thank you so much for your response.

I’ve sent my application in, and am now just waiting anxiously.
i do hope i make it.

I don’t understand how the admissions’ 75% system works though.

I’ve read that McCombs fills up 75% going from top 1%, 2%, 3%, etc…

so does BHP have a completely different system, if so, how does that work, because I’ve been under the impression that one can only be considered for BHP after having been accepted to McCombs.

And thank you about liking my civil service commitment. Some of our defendents comes back to us after their case and tell us that we’ve inspired them to become a part of Teen Court.

It’s a wonderful feeling. Quite uplifting actually.

buuuummmpppp

My name is Eric H., and I’m a current senior Business Honors, Finance, Plan II student. I’ve worked in the Business Honors Program office since sophomore year as a student recruiter so I can provide advise and clarify any issues regarding BHP and the application. I’m one of three business honors student recruiters.

TheAccountingCat and Elasticity-- BHP admissions is completely separate from McCombs and UT. However, the order in which you will find out your admissions decisions is from UT, then McCombs, and finally BHP. The BHP admissions committee is not bound by any top XX% rule or any quotas, rather, as mentioned in this thread, the BHP application is very holistic, looking at students’ performance both inside the classroom as well as in extracurricular and leadership roles.

ponder- there are no additional essays for BHP. The committee pulls essay A and essay B from your applyTexas application.

thanks eric. when we start to see BHP acceptance to be sent?

If you applied by Nov 1st, then you should start hearing back from the admissions committee around mid to late January. If you apply during the regular deadline (Dec 15th), you’ll hear back latest by March 1st.

how is the interview for BHP set up?

The interview is for selected applicants. That is, not everyone is guaranteed an application but all those who are admitted to BHP have gone through a phone interview with a BHP alumni. However, not everyone who gets an interview is guaranteed into BHP.

Basically, if selected, an alumni will email you to set a good time for a phone interview, then she or he will call you and conduct the interview. The interview should not be intimidating at all, rather, it’s a chance for the committee to see what you’re all about and add an additional perspective to your application.

So if I applied before November 1st (around October 25) and I am chosen for an interview, when should I start hearing from the alumni?

@expandmyhorizons-- If you applied by Nov. 1st, you should get an email from an alumnus either in mid-December or early January. The BHP admissions committee hopes to have decisions for early applicants out by mid to late January.

Also, for those who haven’t submitted their application yet, please keep in mind that applications are due on December 15th, and you must submit your Apply Texas application before you get the chance to begin the BHP application. Our system pulls essay A and B from your ApplyTexas application. Also, be sure to reach out to your recommender so they have enough time to write the letter when the system send them an email.

Best of luck!

BHPRecruiter, I have a question for you. Suppose an applicant already got general admission to UT but has not got admission offer from McCombs yet. Does the applicant can still expect to hear from an alumnus for interview? or, the applicant must first get admission to McCombs and then only he can expect a call for an interview?

okay so if i dont get a phone interview by feb, im probaly not going to get in?

@gpp2010, The BHP admissions process is completely separate from the McCombs and UT Admissions Process. Thus, an applicant might get an email requesting an interview before or after getting accepted into McCombs. The McCombs application timeline is independent from the BHP application timeline. However, applicants should hear back from UT, then McCombs, and finally BHP regarding admissions decisions.

@cocoaluna, if you applied early to BHP (ie. on or before Nov. 1st, you should hear back about your BHP admissions decision (acceptance or denial) in mid to late January. Thus, the phone interview process, if selected, will occur before a decision is mailed out.

If an applicant applies by the Dec 15 regular deadline, the interview may occur between Dec 15 and March 1st (when decisions are mailed out).

I hope this helps. Please reach out to me if you have any other questions.

-Eric

Do you know what percentage of the students who are granted a phone interview receive admission to BHP?

We do not have any statistics about how many students who get a phone interview are eventually admitted into the program.

Not all students who apply are interviewed, but all BHP students have gone through the interview process; however, not all applicants interviewed are admitted into BHP.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Hey BHPrecruiter, you said that you hear back from:

1.UT First
2.McCombs second
3. And the BHP last

However, i heard back from BHP first but i didnt get in so maybe thats different.

IM OOS also so could that mean that since my app was read by BHP that i got into UT?
If not why did i hear from BHP first??

My buddy is near the top of our class and he has not had an invitation for an interview nor did he get a reject letter. Any chance of hearing good news later in the next round?

@LaDiDaDi- BHP admissions decisions are separate from all other admissions decisions. Since you were declined admission into BHP, BHP does not need to wait for you to hear back from UT or McCombs to tell you have you not been accepted into BHP. However, if you are accepted into BHP, you’ve got to get into UT and McCombs. In that case, the order in which you hear back applies. UT and McCombs makes its admissions decisions separately, so a rejection from BHP does not imply acceptance into UT or McCombs.

@smart2010- interviews are still being granted so just because you haven’t gotten an interview, it doesn’t mean you’re already rejected.

-Eric

I got in :)

the one thing i’ve learned is to just keep hope, no matter what.
give it your best.
and value the advice of loved ones :)

being the OP, I wish you all the very best.

So if you applied before 11/1 deadline and did not receive an interview, there still may be a chance?
