I’m Asian.

ECs: I naturally found myself gravitating towards a few passions:

I founded a company in freshman year and developed a product and an app for it my junior year. I was accepted into a business academy and I’ve won a few regional and national entrepreneurship/pitch competitions. I published a book (not self-published, under an actual big publisher) about my experiences as a young man in entrepreneurship.

I play in a very distinguished youth orchestra (and am the principal flutist of it) and am in their small ensemble program, so I perform at the Kennedy Center in DC a lot. I started a flute studio and teach lessons to kids. I also created a youtube channel where I fuse Indian flute music with pop music and electronic music.

Less important stuff: in Tri-M

These are my dream schools, so I would appreciate if anyone could have some input with any of this. Thank you all so much.

Just from looking at my DC’s high school’s Naviance for a HS in NOVA, you have a great chance at both! I would guess a definite acceptance at VA Tech and a great chance for UVA. Good Luck!!

probably man

UVA must accept 70% instate so good chance! But depends on how many applying from your school if they decide to have a quota for each VA high school

Just to clarify - UVA does not accept 70% of in state applicants but the enrollment is ~70% in state and 30% OOS.

Oops that was my mistake the freshman class is 70% instate

I was pretty sure that was what you meant.

Thanks for the advice and insight. Good luck to any of you that are in the college admissions process as well.

Bumping because I wanted some insight about my rank. I’m not in the top 10% of my class (just missed it by a bit!) but took a relatively challenging course load with AP and honors as well as many subject tests. My transcript is okay too, with just one B in freshman year honors math and the rest As. How much will this bite me and does this take me out of the running for UVA?

It helps to be top 10% of your class. You didn’t mention what you are majoring. Engineering school would be harder to get into than something like Arts and Sciences.

I want to major in business administration. I feel like the rest of my application is good, but do my grades hurt me a lot in this process?

Your grades are excellent. Why would they hurt you?

@lostaccount I was talking about my class rank since I’m not in the top 10%, but my transcript is all As with only one B freshman year, and this is with honors and AP courses. I see a lot on these forums that if you’re not in the top 10%, your chances go down a lot. It’s discouraging since I’ve worked so hard for my grades, but for some reason my rank is lower (maybe because of some A-s…).
