Chance me for UVA?

Hello everyone! I’m a female rising senior that lives in Virginia and attends a rural public high school.

Race: Hispanic
Age: 17
SAT: CW-630, M-600, W-610 (1840)
AP scores: 5 in AP Human Geo, 4 in AP Psych
GPA: 4.083

Academically, I’m 7th in my class.

Extracurriculars

MGA (Model General Assembly) - 3 years
Varsity Cross Country - 4 years
Girl Scouts - 4 years
Attended Governor’s Japanese Academy 2014 (a highly selective summer program)

Volunteering/Other
Volunteering at local Hospice thrift store - 100+ hours
Part-time math tutoring - 10+ hours

I also play guitar and have been teaching myself Japanese for 2 years or so. I am very interested in the Japanese language and culture and hope to at least minor in Japanese. I’ve actually spoken with the head of the Japanese department at UVA. As for my major, I’m thinking either Japanese (if I decide to become a Japanese teacher) or something else science-related. Also, not sure if this matters at all, but my older brother currently goes to UVA.

Thanks to everyone who posts!

Can we place bets? I bet you are accepted! Self study of Japanese makes you sound very interesting. Good luck.

You will need to improve your SAT scores most likely to be highly considered–you do have very interesting extracurriculars and such but your SAT is low/mediocre by UVA standards. Have you taken the ACT?

I would say you have a VERY high chance at acceptance especially because you’re from Virginia.
