Chance me for Wharton ED? I'll give ya a cookie!

Hello fellow CC users,

I'm hoping you guys can give me a bit of feedback on whether or not I have a legitimate chance at Wharton Early Decision. I'm a rising senior. Thanks in advance! Here are my stats and whatnot:

School: Top School in the state; also top 20 in the nation for Math, Science, and Tech.

Ethnicity: Albanian

Hooks: First generation student.

Academics

GPA: 4.1 out of 4.25 (this is weighted. our school doesn't report unweighted)
SAT: 780 CR, 760 M, 700 Wr (2240 compositie)
SAT II: 800 Math , 800 Literature, 730 Biology
APs: Bio - 5, Language - 5, Calc AB - 3, Chem - 2 (Idk what happened on Chem to be honest. I had a great grade in the course if that makes any difference)

Senior Schedule

AP Calc BC
AP Stat
AP Literature
AP Macro and Micro Econ
AP US Gov't
Honors Physics
International Relations

Extracurriculars:

Jefferson Council: This a nationally recognized club that helps put together service based activities in school and in our surrounding community.

Website: I run my own website thats all about technology. I write a lot of long-form opinion/feature articles instead of the normal tech news.

Business Professionals of America: I founded this club and I'm also the president. I'm heavily involved in business, and I do virtual online stock trading as well.

Model UN: This really speaks for itself I think.

Translator: This isn't really a typical EC, but I act as a translator for nearly everything in my household.

Volunteering: About 75 hours at a local hospice.

There are a few others that I dabble in but these are the ones I'm really passionate about and spend a lot of time and effort on.

Research: I'm currently working with a business professor at my state university on a research paper regarding Google and their advertising business model. This paper will likely get published, and there is a good chance that I will be listed as a coauthor.

Awards

Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award Nominee
COMAP Math Modeling - Meritorious Award
M3 Math Modeling - Meritorious Award
4th Place at Personal Finance Challenge

Also I won the Common Wealth Awards Writing Competition.

Other Stuff:

Recommendations: I chose two teachers who really like me and I've done great in their classes. One will showcase my writing, the other will talk about business and BPA. Also, my guidance counselor told me that my college counselor is planning to write a really great 2 page rec.

Essays: My essay will be about my country of birth and how that affects my love of technology.

So yeah...thats about it. I really would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Personally, I think you have a good chance at Wharton. Your SAT score is excellent and highly competitive. Your EC’s are good, and it really displays your passion. Just make sure you do really well on those AP classes and get good scores. Overall, I wouldn’t stress too much about admission, but remember Wharton is very selective. Good luck with senior year and Wharton.

Thanks @FantasyVesperia! I appreciate the feedback!

C’mon guys, 265 views? Surely some of you have something to say! I’d appreciate it :)

Buuuuuuuump

Great chance pixels. Since AP scores are self-reported, I’d recommend that you abstain from reporting your Calc AB scores and Chem score, but that’s just my personal opinion. Other than that, you have an excellent chance! Good luck!

Thanks @kbolisetty23, I really appreciate the insight! I was wondering about the AP scores too. I want to leave them out, but I wonder how much that might suggest that my high grades in the classes were a result of an easy class (which they weren’t - my school is ranked 15 in the nation for STEM, so our math/science classes are pretty intense!). I honestly don’t know why my scores on those two were so low.

Your SAT could be better, but if you apply ED and write an interesting essay (probably about Albania) you should be in.

Thanks kiddo :)

More opinions are welcome!

Thanks guys, more opinions are welcome!

Honestly, I think you have an amazing chance at getting into Wharton. Your extracurriculars are amazing, you have a great gpa, and you are applying ED. I think that if you want make your chances even higher, try studying for the 2300+ but I don’t think it will make that much of a difference. Just keep good grades in senior year and remember to complete the essays as early as you can! :)

please chance

Thanks Yolo!

Any others?

I think you have a really good shot at Wharton, especially if that research paper goes through. You might want to mention something about that in one of the essays that you have to write for the Penn supplement (I guess…?).

I think you should leave off your AP Chem score for sure ad maybe the Calc AB one too. A 2 definitely doesn’t look good, but a 3 isn’t bad.

Maybe try to see if you can find some sort of “official” position as a translator because I don’t know if it’ll be accepted by colleges as an EC if you just do it for your household. I don’t know, but I think that would be an awesome addition.

Chance me back please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1374018-chances-jhu-cornell-uchicago-more.html

Thanks for the advice and insight 328copley! I think I’m going to leave off those two AP scores. I’m a bit worried that they’ll think my A’s in the classes are inflated, but then again my school is ranked top 5 in the nation for STEM, so they can’t be THAT easy.

I think you have an excellent chance to get into Wharton. Your Gpa and extracurriculars are great. You seem really passionate about business and I assume that it will rub off in your interview. Just cross your fingers and hope for the best because unless you have a stroke of bad luck, you’ll probably get into Wharton.
