Chance me for WUSTL, Northwestern, Chicago, Cornell, and Wesleyan

I just completed my first semester at Lehigh University. I'm applying to transfer for the 2010 Fall semester because I'd like to go to a school with a stronger English program.

High School Stats:

Top ranked public high school
GPA: 4.0 UW
SAT: 2010 (680 Math, 670 Writing, 660 Reading)
SAT II: 660 Math II, 610 Literature
ACT: 31 (34 Math, 29s on the rest)
AP: 5 Calculus AB, 5 Language and Composition
Rank: 21/111 (my guidance counselor is explaining this in his letter of recommendation)
Recommendations: Incredible letter of recommendation from Latin teacher of five years
Awards: National Language Society, United States Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, my school's Writing Award, various others
ECs: Lots of volunteer work, tutoring, Science Olympiad, tons of work experience

College Stats:

Major: English, though I haven't officially declared
GPA: 3.85 (A's in both English courses, A-'s in Intro to Sociology and Intro to Planet Earth)
Recommendations: Really good letters of recommendation from two professors in the English department, including the department chair
Essay: Writing it now, hopefully will turn out well
ECs: Diversity Achievers Program, writer for the student-run school newspaper starting next semester

Do I have a shot at any of these schools? My SAT scores could be better, but shouldn't my first semester GPA make up for it? Thanks for any comments/advice!

P.S. - My number one choice is Washington University in St. Louis. I'm visiting the campus this January and also having an interview. Will the demonstrated interest help at all?

Please???

Anyone???

You will be a competitive applicant in WUSTL.

Thanks! I really wasn’t sure whether I stood a chance, but that’s exactly what I wanted to hear.

Anyone else?

Update: Turns out I got an A in a class instead of an A-. That brings up me up to a 3.9 GPA. I have a total of 26 credits so far and I’ll be taking 17 more in my second semester.

8)

I wouldn’t be taking so many credits if I were you. Should you decide to transfer again, you don’t want to reach senior standing in three years.

i dont much about the schools but it seems like you worked hard and good luck:)
chance me please

@ drek’thar:

I’m not sure I understand. I had 10 AP credits and my courseload is about average. I can see how not having enough credits might be a problem, but I didn’t think you could ever have too many…

If you don’t get into the school of your choice as a sophomore, you may need to re-apply as a transfer the next year. If by then you have too many credits or reached senior standing, you will be rejected by the schools that don’t accept senior transfer (most of them) or put a cap on the number of credits you may have at the time of application or of transfer (many of them).

Ah, ok. Thanks for the heads up. I kind of doubt I’ll reach senior standing by then, but if I start to approach it I can always cut back on credits a little.
