EC's After HS: Treasure of Phi Theta Kappa (International Honor Society), sales in the jewelry business, data entry, accounting work, and property management. I also studied abroad in China for a month.

Background: High School was so-so. In my sophomore year I decided to go to a continuation school and finished a year early, so instead of this being my second year at a CCC, it would have been my first. I can speak 3 languages: Cambodian, Chinese (Mandarin), and English. Dean's Honor List

Other Info: I am in the Scholars program (TAP), but will not be TAP certified before I transfer.

What about TAG for UCSB?

I am new to california and all that jazz, buttttt from what my sources tell me ( )
you look like ur in good shape but i can’t be 100% sure
i think the avg. gpa admitted to ucsb last year for transfers was around a 3.3. Try to get all ur prerequisites done and it’s good you’ll have igetc completed too!
goo dluck! i’m also applying too.

No TAG agreement either. =</p>

ok if you get TAG you’ll be in for UCSB. Not much of a chance for UCLA. I would suggest the GPA to be like a 3.7 the least. Unfortunately, this major is ridiculously competitive for some reason and the major got created in 2006. I don’t understand what it is, I would comprehend econ, or communications but GS? nobody even knows about it. Seems to me this is one of those good dark horse majors noone talks about. For UCSB you are a shoe in just complete the pre reqs and do TAG here’s the deal on some recommended classes you can take at SMC.

Anthro 2- Minzenberg
econ 1- keskinel
geography 2- kellner
Poly Sci 7- Buckley
History 34, Max Kent
math 52- Perez

If you have taken these classes or otrher instructors, nevermind I just put it out there. If you have any questions about what professor to take ask me I know all about SMC and the transfer process.

Professor Keskinel is awesome! I’m taking his Econ 1 and Econ 2 classes right now. Very nice guy. =] I didn’t know he taught at SMC as well. I have him at West LA College.

Damn! I don’t think I’ll be getting TAG because I am currently enrolled in Math 20(non-transferable), and that concluding I can’t sign the TAG agreement. I plan on taking Math 52 (either winter or spring) or Math 26 (during the winter) and then taking Math 28 during the spring. Do you think this will set me back from getting accepted?

As for pre-reqs, the only class I am missing will be either History- 24, 25, 2, 5, 6, 12, 22, or 39. I plan on taking either of those classes during spring of 2010.

I heard Buckley was hard??

Allan Buckley is a very hard teacher to take for political science at SMC, but expect to learn a lot. I took Buckley for polisci 1. I took it during the winter and it was incredibly intense and I got an A in the class. One of the hardest classes to get an A in.

edit: One good thing about Buckley however, is that he has a Ph. D from Columbia University which I found to be a cool thing.

james you’ll be oright please take that math class in the winter. is UCSB your primary choice? I’ll tell you what, they have a very good GS program out there the good thing about it is that you get into the major and no pressure while at UCLA you have to apply for the major once your there. anyhow, ucla is obviously a top notch school but UCSB will get you far. interesting set of history courses but not one of those is a prereq for GS. but if I have to recommend you take a course, take history 12 with Tom Keville. there’s lots of reading but exams very easy straight from study guide.

as far as buckley, yeah no doubt he’s challenging, but you’ll learn a lot. I also got an A and keskinel is very very cool too. I have a question for you guys let me know what you guys think: what major do you think is more marketable and is better? Global Studies or Poly Sci? Although, Global studies is fairly unrecognizable by some it does cover a broad range of topics like culture, governance, and markets while poly sci covers governance. what do you think?

Yeah, I’ll be taking Math 52 during the winter, I suppose. UCSB is my first choice, other than that UCLA, UCI, and UCSD are just schools I’ll try to apply to. Are you sure that neither of the history classes I listed apply to GS majors? I just checked Assist.org and it listed it there.

BUMP! any thoughts? =)

james, this is pretty good. yes you are right i just saw assist.org history 12 is counted for ucsb. I was unsure because for ucla its not. so your all set. i have a question: who did you take for anthro 2?

For Anthropology 2, I took Professor Wallace Zane. He was pretty cool, but also had is corky moments. When I took his class last Spring, he never gave us homework or essay assignments. His tests were all based on lectures and the readings.

What does everyone else think of me having a shot for GS major at UCSB?
