Hi everyone,
Here is what I did:
- graduated HS in 2010 with GPA 3.1 (I graduated in asia)
- used all the gap years to work to earn money for college
While working, I volunteered at orphanages and taught drawing to children mostly. I managed to explore knowledge on my own (on neuroscience and psychology) during those years.
My recent achievements:
- SAT 1600 (new SAT)
- AP Chem 5
- AP Bio 5
- AP CS 5
Can I apply for any school that offers need-blind with these stats? My family doesn’t encourage me for pursuing higher education so I really need financial aid.
Thanks so much!
More activities I participated:
- Vice president on Class’s extra activities
- Admin team at Blood Donation Group ABO, administrators on information about the Blood.
- Volunteer at Church’s social activities.
I think you can. You just have to write your personal statement very well and pour your heart into it. Let it be your chance to tell your story and let the reader into your head. You’ll be fine
Need blind may not help; you may need a school that meets full need for internationals. Check Wikipedia’s list of “meet full need” schools.
There are only a handful of need blind schools for internationals. And the competition is quite intense for these schools.
Have you considered applying to some smaller liberal arts colleges that are friendly to internationals? You might be able to get some more aid?
There are also some US universities that give scholarships to high scorers: U Alabama and a few others.
