-AP Government
-AP Biology
-AP World History

Trinity is my absolute #1 and I feel as if I have pulled out all the cards for it. I have interviewed with them twice, visited campus, emailed their admissions counselor asking for what I could do in order to strengthen my application, written a physical thank you letter, and visited them at a college fair at my school. I have also submitted an additional letter of recommendation from my math tutor to hopefully give the colleges an idea of why I struggle with math and that the lower grades are not as a result from slacking. I have also submitted an expanded resume with my applications by emailing the schools.

Most of my schools are reaches and I am planning on applying to safeties in a few weeks. I just need some sort of feedback because I am driving myself crazy about getting letters from the colleges…

Here are my college choices in order of interest.

  1. Trinity Unversity
  2. Baylor University
  3. Austin College
  4. Southwestern University
  5. St. Edward's University
  6. Texas State

OP, go to the school’s CDS and compare your stats to the accepted students stats- GPA , class rank and test scores. That will give you an idea of where you might land. Regardless, an SAT 1500 is generally considered college ready for less selective schools.

Are you full pay? Do you need financial aid or merit aid? Will you apply EA or ED to any of the schools that offer this?

It sounds that you have tried your best to show Trinity that you are interested in them. Apply and see what happens . Show interest in your other schools as well.

Look up the other schools and try to get excited about all your possible options. Good luck!

If you like Trinity and Southwestern, why not consider Hedrix as well?

I have already applied EA and I’m waiting for a response which is super stressful in itself! Any other advice? I appreciate what you have helped so far

I second the idea of applying to Hendrix, perhaps Rhodes (and definitely Agnes Scott as well if you’re a girl - they’re test-optional so you wouldn’t submit your SAT but rather a graded essay and since your high school is very strong I assume your papers would be too… In addition, ASC is quite strong for neuroscience).
Have you run the Net Price Calculators on each of these? Does net cost fall within your parents’ budget?
Have you applied to Texas State’s Honors College?

Hi, thank you for replying

The schools fall under my budget, I am just very interested in staying in Texas and that is why my list is so focused on Texas. I will look into those schools for safeties though

Anyone else have any comments?

I do have to agree with whoever said Rhodes. Memphis isn’t that far away from some parts of Texas, and it’s connected to Amtrak. All of the people that I know who are going or have been (it’s a freakishly large number for such a small school(like 7)) love(d) it. The architecture is beautiful and your philanthropy ECs will make you a great fit for the Greek life. And yes, I’m EXTREMELY biased despite having no interest.

Any other comments? I’m looking to stay in Texas.

Although you’re looking to stay in Texas, look a bit around, since it doesn’t matter for private universities.

Have you run the NPCs?

No, what is that? @MYOS1634
Also it isn’t for price it is because I am interested and very set on staying close to home.

Net Price Calculators.
It’s pointless to apply to universities you can’t afford. Each university has its own formula, based on what they’re looking at, and then, how much they want you (so, based on whether your profile is one they want).
So it’s VERY IMPORTANT to run the NPC and apply only to affordable universities.

What about Texas Lutheran in Seguin?

I am getting the vibe you guys don’t think I can get into these schools…

You have a shot but they may very well be unaffordable.
Please run the NPCs on each website (type in the college’s name and NPC in your browser) then ask your parents whether the cost is within budget.
Your SAT score is below the 25% percentile and your GPA is below average at Trinity, which makes it a reach (odds are perhaps 1 in 4) but since you pulled out all the stops to demonstrate interest they may well admit you - the issue is going to be, with what financial package and will it be affordable?; Austin is a bit of a reach but possible, your odds may be 1 in 3; St Edward’s is a likely, your odds are 75%; Southwestern is a reach, your odds are 1 in 5; Baylor is another reach; Texas State is a safety, you’re basically sure to get in. The problem with all of these is that St Edward’s and Texas State may not be affordable, and then you’re stuck with CC. :frowning: And if you applied out of Texas you may have a shot at a better college. At the very least, applying 400+ miles from home may give you on boost on account of geographical diversity.

Have you applied to UT Dallas? University of Houston?
Can you consider Texas Lutheran?

Can you draw a radius around your home and see if within that radius there are colleges you’d like? After all if it’s outside of Texas but within a certain radius, shouldn’t that school be possible? Texas is such a huge state, if you decided (say) 300miles from home is okay, you may end up still in Texas, but depending on where you live, you may be able to consider colleges in New Orleans, or in Oklahoma, or in Arkansas… without being further away than with your current university choices.

Thank you @MYOS1634 I really appreciate this detailed response. I will be considering all these things and update this forum when I hear back from anyone!
