in addition, i was recruited to be on the debate team at georgetown, which is restarting after receiving little funding for the past few years. the coach and the primary donor for the team sent letters of recs to the admissions office.

why do you bother writing? sorry I'm not trying to be mean but I really don't get it...you were RECRUITED to be on the GU debate team, you have tons of awards and plenty of other good and solid extracurrics/grades....

yes of course, there is a chance you can be denied but for everyone it's the same...you have a good chance, relax.

ok. but let's say i wasn't recruited to be on the debate team. the coach isn't too sure of how much pull he has because he is BRAND new this year and the school hasn't been the most supportive of the team in the past. he did write a letter of rec, i'm just not sure how much weight this will play. all in all, what are my chances absent being recruited?

you shouldn't be worried at all.
maybe you should be a bit worried that you're worrying over such fantastic grades/awards/ECs haha...just RELAX.

the debate team at georgetown, up until last year, was not very good at all. last year, they qualified two teams to the National Debate Tournament (a feat that not many college debaters ever achieve). This year, they have had a fantastic showing for such a young team (the debate team is all sophomores and freshmen) at several of the top college tournaments. And although the team was not very good the last few years, georgetown was BY FAR the best team in the country in the mid 70s and early 80s, winning the national debate tournament a few times and finishing in the top 5 for 5 years straight.
