How can I improve my app? What are my chances so far? Thanks!

I think you have an excellent chance based on your grades and tests, especially being in-state . Your essay topic seems quite interesting.

Strong candidate being in state. Congrats on your math score - very impressive, and yes, it will help. Your CR score is probably in the 50+ percentile of those who attend. Class rank is where it needs to be and rigor of study is strong. ECs are very solid, especially if you took leadership roles. Essay topic is quite compelling so sell yourself by emphasizing what you will bring to the incoming class at Carolina.

Just curious, given your screen name, have you applied to NC State? There are fantastic opportunities there also.

I feel like even if you were out of state you’d have pretty strong changes–your 800 M on the SAT will definitely help since you want to be a math major, and your ECs and APs (I also went in with five APs) are really strong.

I agree about applying to NCSU though–they have some awesome programs and if you’re applying for financial aid, it would be great to compare what packages you get at each school and be able to pick the best one.

Question though, can you change your handle to uncfan97 if you end up going to UNC? You might find us to be a bit salty toward NC State fans right now after that game today. :P

You’re a strong candidate regardless, and it’s very likely that you will get into both UNC and NC State. Good luck!
