Ahh the ripe old age of 20. 365 days until I can join that club that takes their problems to the bar.

Anyway, I made a chance thread a while ago but its full of me posting "bump"...too depressing. So here are my stats and thanks!

I'm a prospective transfer student with 2 years completed.

High school
GPA - 2.0
SAT - N/A (not needed for transfers)
EC's - participated in shooting, directing, and producing about 500 tv productions at my high school, track and field soph year, and a shot a community service documentary my senior year - overall, I was not a very good student in high school.

CC Stats
GPA - 3.9
EC's -
VP of fundraising for PTK
Treasurer + Vice President of my business club
raised $1000 for the American Red Cross for the Japan Earthquake victims
spearheaded a ton of PTK stuff
currently interning at an insurance company in lower NYC (for about year now)
deans lists
Mu Alpha Theta
recipient of the Robert Sydney Needham Scholarship
nominated for the All-USA academic team
Honors Program

My recommendations so far have been very moving, especially the advisor from my business club. I also have a recommendation from my employer + 2 more teachers on the way. I am applying to the AEM for this Spring.

From the feedback I've received on CC, my essay really helps me to be a strong candidate - of course that is not me to decided. Thanks again!

To be short and simple, no you don’t have a high chance…maybe about 5-6% if majority of the U.S. dies…sorry =/
Happy birthday though and I’ll come to a bar with you in NJ…in 5 years >.<

I don’t know a ton about transferring, and how much they look into high school grades, but assuming they overlook high school I would say that you have a fairly good chance at getting in, especially with some of your ECs, I honestly have no idea what warpclaw was talking about because you seem to have done very well since CC. Also the fact that he is 16 and not even in college tells me he probably isn’t super informed when it comes to transferring.

Don’t feel sick deadhead…believe in yourself and understand that regardless of where you end up attending, you will be fine. I would also like to add that you seem like such a terrific young man, and I look forward to hearing the news. Please keep us updated.

Thank you so much for the kind words momma-three - I’ve been trying to get myself thinking that as well. The “being sick” feeling was just the finality of all the hard work for the stars to align so that I can get a Cornell education. It’s been a humbling experience applying here, regardless of admission or not.

Yeah I found that out a little too late, however, it DOES say on CALS’s website that it is ENCOURAGED but not required.

"For transfers entering as juniors (three or four full-time college semesters completed or in progress at time of application, up to 60 credit hours):

Two College Writing/English Composition courses
Public Speaking
Microeconomics
Macroeconomics
Calculus I
Statistics
Encouraged (but not required):
One full year of Introductory Biology (labs not required)
One course in either Chemistry or Physics
Courses that meet the CALS social science and humanities course requirements"

I mean I would definitely do a winter chemistry course before I transfer, thats no problem. I just hope that won’t be a giant blemish on my application.

As for the essay - I’ll pm it to you and you be the judge lol - I think it’ll do the job though.

deadhead…I remember when my kids applied and we were waiting on decision day for the results. When do transfers hear of their acceptance? I want to keep that day in mind and send you lots of positive energy…you have wanted Cornell for a long time. Where else have you applied?

Transfers hear back in November - I would guess around the 15th? And yeah, Cornell has been on my radar ever since I became a real student and a real person.

Because I’m a New Jersey resident, I will be applying to The College of New Jersey and Rutgers. Also William and Mary and Baruch. I would have looked at more Ivies, however, most are fall only for transfers. Thank you for thinking of me, that’s very much appreciated!
