<p>Hi all, im a first time poster on CC. Ive been reading threads on here for a while and finally decided to join and start posting today. So without further ado, my stats:</p>

<p>applying from a community college in California
Entering as: Junior</p>

<p>HS gpa: 3.1/4.0 (my effort level was seriously lacking, satisfied by coasting by with B's)
College gpa: 4.0/4.0 (during transition from high school to college I realized I really had to work to get what I want. Took 21 units first semester (ppl called me crazy) and got the first 4.0 of my life. 19 units 2nd semester and all A's again. </p>

<p>Units: Just completed my first year of college and took 40 units in 2 semesters (as i just said lol). Taking Public Speaking (required for AEM) and Physics (recommended for AEM) currently over summer session. </p>

<p>I will have every requirement done and Physics for the recommended (no chem) by the time i transfer.</p>

<p>Ec's: very involved in school, part of honor society ptk (and doing leadership), international ambassador to international students on campus, started own investing club (serving as president), played baseball first semester (offered redshirt, declined to focus on school and other things). serving as an RA (resident assistant) for my sophomore year next year. my cc is rare in that it has a private company that provides a 1st year dorm living experience for freshmen. also had an internship at a law firm in high school and worked at a bagel shop. </p>

<p>got presidents honor roll both my 1st and 2nd semesters. also should have very strong recs from teachers ive formed strong relationships with.</p>

<p>Taking 17.5 units in fall and 16 in spring of next year. got everything planned out school-wise. </p>

<p>Never thought I would be applying to Cornell when i first entered college but with the support of a really encouraging counselor and people around me, i am hoping to make this dream a reality! </p>

<p>it might also be worth noting that I just got my first W last week. i thought i needed to take the Lab with the physics class for Cornell and found out I didnt but it was passed the drop without w deadline. i did not want to risk losing my 4.0 and having time taken from my other classes and dropped it. i called cornell and they said "a W is not ideal, but it is explainable." so im hoping my explanation is good that it was a 1 unit lab that i had to work very hard in to keep my 4.0 while it did not benefit me for transfer. was really scared to drop it and have a W but after looking around on CC a bit about W's feeling a little better. it is my first and (will be) my only one.</p>

<p>While your stats look good, you have to keep in mind that AEM is one of the hardest to get into. Do you have something exceptional that will make you stand out?

<p>Hard to chance transfers. With AEM, my hunch is they’ll care a lot about your entrepreneurial EC’s, so focus on those in the essays if possible (I actually have no idea what the AEM application is like).</p>

<p>Hmm well I’ve been fortunate enough to have some tremendous travel experiences including a volunteer experience in el salvador and a trip to Israel. I can talk about those experiences and the profound impact on me. </p>

<p>I was also thinking/hoping that my experience as an RA is something that a lot of other applicants won’t have. I will be starting that experience in the fall (very excited!) and I am specifically looking forward to learning the balance of friendship while being a person in a position of authority. Do you think these would be “exceptional?”</p>

<p>If not what would you consider to be an “exceptional” quality in applicants? </p>

<p>Also in terms of entrepreneurial stuff EC wise, I have a lot of interest in app development and I’m hoping to have something by the end of the year. Any other ideas?</p>

<p>Those volunteer experiences sound good…you can include RA as well…it will show leadership. Any sort of business related experience? might want to include that…
If something gets done with app development by the time you apply, you can talk about that.</p>
