Maybe for UCs. One girl my daughter know was accepted to Berkeley, her mom died in 10 the grade but she had lousy GPA, so I guess it works for UC.
I was thinking of tippy top private schools like HYS.
Chance Me? Johns Hopkins(ED), Cornell, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB, UCI, Emory, St. Louis Washington, Duke
John Hopkins would be tough. I also think UCB and Cornell are also tough. UCSD is a little less, but premeds are intense everywhere.

Not trying to be a jerk, but your continual “bump” comments have gotten ridiculous. It’s okay to bump a couple times, but after getting 2 pages worth of replies, is it really necessary to continue bumping your post? It is rude to others that have no comments who aren’t getting replies because old bumps are taking their place.
I would say you have a good shot at any of these schools, especially Cornell. Cornell is an easy acceptance for you. How did you prepare for the SAT? You did a phenomenal job… I am trying to increase my score.
@HSClassof2016 i went to these classes called Elite which is supposed to prepare you for the SAT. Honestly, I dont think it helped too much. I did all the tests from the blue book and used flash cards to memorize vocab terms. Thanks for the chancing, do you really think I could get in even with the low GPA?
Awesome, thanks for the pointers. I’m thinking that it is all coming down to practice…which will ultimately lead to a high score. And I am pretty confident that you will get in… my school sent two girls there last year. Both of which were smart, but not anything extraordinary. I am convinced one of them got in for the sole fact that their brother goes there…she didn’t have any outstanding EC’s or classes… unlike you!
I think your research on the Parkinson’s Disease is really good to talk about and works great with your major. I don’t know much about “chancing” but your scores looks amazing as well. Good luck!
I’m gonna say that Cornell and Duke are Mid-Reach. JHU, Emory, WUSL Low match. UC’s Mid-High Match.
@as9934 did you mean JHU, Emory, WUSL are low reach?
Yes sorry my bad.
Scores are obviously fine, ECs are pretty cool- especially about Parkinson’s disease. Cornell and JHU are obviously super competitive, and I would only do ED if you seriously wanted to go to one over the other.
does anyone know anything about EDing to Emory?
Good shot at any of these schools- Emory should be a match
GPA might hurt a little but maybe have the counselor mention the circumstances in his letter (DON’T write an essay about it though)
It is better to focus on something good you did (any of your great ECs) instead of trying to justify little mistakes that everyone makes- it will look like excuses even though you have a valid reason
Good luck!
@VaishS could I talk about how my dad’s disease led me to do one of my ECs (i.e. research and volunteering) and how it changed me as a person?
I think you will get into JHU. You are very strong academically.
You seem like a very strong fit for Cornell, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCSB, UCI, Emory, St. Louis Washington, the only two that are questionable are Johns Hopkins and Duke. If you can increase your gpa a little. However, since you are applying to John Hopkins ED you should be fine. I believe that you will get into Duke with stellar recommendations and good essays. Make sure you start applications early! Best of Luck. And please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1793369-please-chance-me-for-ut-austin.html#latest
@kvnl21 @sharathzotis thank you for the feedback!
