Chance me (Jr.): UC's, Mich Ross, Vandy, USC

State: California

School: Large public HS, 4000 people total, about 900 in my grade

Course Rigor: 8.5/10, will have taken 8 APs by the end of senior year

UC GPA U/W and Capped W: 4.0, 4.33

‘Regular’ GPA U/W and W: 3.96, 4.42

Rank: School does not rank, though I’m probably in the top 5%

Standardized Testing: 1570 – 770 EBRW, 800M, 19 Essay // 35C – 36E, 36M, 35R, 33S, 8 Essay (my counselor says I should only send my SAT score) // 4/5’s on all APs // 780 Bio M, 710 Math II (ouch, retaking)

EC: Honestly the weakest point in my application. Without listing everything I’ve done in HS, I would guess my EC involvement is about a 4-5/10. I have a heavy music/orchestra emphasis and am involved in a few clubs and sports (no leadership position in either). I also don’t have any major awards or academic accolades.

Ethnicity/Gender: Asian male

Legacy: Dad is a USC alum

Major: Finance/Econ

Your stat is fine for all schools, but the admission rate for some of them are very low. So the chance would depend on the rest of your application. Have you check the NPCs of those OOS or private schools?

Without leadership positions, it is difficult to predict the likelihood of your admission. That being said, your objective stats are very good and get your foot in the door at these schools. At that point, it’s all on your essays and extra-circulars, so look for something that you can do this summer that ties into your intended major and offers a sort of leadership. Good luck.
