Note:
The admissions officer said my grades were low but they were only looking at the quantitiative side of things. I’m also an URM and I think my test scores are alright (I’m banking on the SAT score to be 2250+) as well as extracurriculars. I’m gonna write my essay on being a URM and how it’s changed my life perspective, etc.

Thank you so much!

Are you Asian? I’m not sure that’s an URM.

Now that I think of it, how could being an URM change your life perspective? Haven’t you always been the same ethnicity/race?

What is your fencing weapon? What is your USFA ranking? What results do you have? @sherpa is the guru re all things fencing, but if you are being seriously recruited by Coach Beguinet then I would think your other qualifications are easily within range. It looks like your AI is somewhere around 225-230, which would be outstanding. I would think you are in great shape as a fencing recruit.

You note that you are a URM as well. In that case, you should be a fairly strong applicant even without being an athletic recruit. What is your ethnic background?

With your current SAT it’s a no.

I think Duke might be bit of a reach

If Alex and Elizabeth are supporting you, you have an excellent chance.

Ignore @wisteria100’s comment about your SAT. A 2150 is sufficient, especially when you add in your SAT II’s.

Good luck with your application. My daughter was a fencing team captain her senior year and might be willing to answer any fencing specific questions. PM me if you’d like.
