Chance me!! Low GPA, High ACT!

Northeastern seems like a low reach too…

Alright, sounds cool, thanks! That just made my day a little better! College stuff has gotten me so stressed… anyone know any schools I should consider/remove or is my list good as it is?

BUMP!
I’m also adding Temple on my list, as a safety-target.
Anyone else got anything for me?

Bump!!! Any other input or any additions anyone has??

Eh, I have a lot to say. But I need more details before I can give you an accurate and well-grounded feedback.

I would first like to see what your year-specific GPAs are. No not the cumulative GPA, but GPA for each year (freshman-Junior). You say you improved. Let the transcript speak.

Also, how many APs/Honors are offered at your school? And what APs/Honors within the core subject areas (exclude misc. subjects like Marketing, etc…) did you take?

And how many AP and SAT II subject tests have you taken?

When these three questions are answered, I will then follow up with a detailed feedback.

But one piece of advice: don’t let the ACT score deceive you, as it is only a small part of the admissions process. And at that 29 level, it isn’t considered high -rather mediocre. So please get 32 minimum, and target 34 and above. Then you’ll likely gain some leverage.

Thanks for the response Dactylic126! Here’s what I have to say.

My school doesn’t give per year GPA, so I wouldn’t really know that. We also do not rank. :/

I have taken 2 APs- AP Gov last year (3) and taking AP bio this year. The thing is my school hinders us students who don’t meet a GPA requirement so we can’t take as many honors and AP classes as we want. I was up for the challenge and I’m doing well in AP Bio so far, but again they won’t let us. We don’t have any APs for business except Macro and Micro Econ. I tried to get in, but the Board of Ed in my town and school wouldn’t let me (again the requirements), but they allowed me to go into Bio because they saw I had potential to do well. However I have taken Honors business courses. I stated this in my personal statement.

I took SAT bio… but that didn’t go too well. I thought for sure I was going to score a high 700 (consistent score on tests for 3+ months) but ended up getting a 600… Again, I’m not going to be bio, science, or premed major, but instead a business major.

I am targeting a 32-33. Hopefully I achieved that on the September test, however, I am planning to retake it in October and do the best I can. However, it’s on the 27th and I’m not sure if I can send in scores after the priortity or early deadline (Nov1). Could someone clarify that?

You can send in after the deadline. Two steps:

 1. notify the college that you’ll send one in late.
 2. Tell CollegeBoard to hustle -they’ll get your scores out asap, though you won’t know what you got…

It varies by school, though testing your senior year and submitting it for ED is not encouraged… Some schools say submit a different test but if we get it in time great, some will flat out accept it and some will only look at tests from your junior year. Check the website of the school you want to apply ED to, it should be under testing policies (or something similar) if it is not contact the school and they should be able to clarify…

Well I’m thinking about applying EDII, so I would get it by Jan 15. I was talking about Early Action necessarily, because my UT and NEU (top two schools) are only EA and Priority Deadline. It would be for the ACT plus Writing, so that takes even longer…

I will get back to you tomorrow regarding your chances though. I’ve got to go

Thanks Datylic126! I greatly appreciate it!

Btw what I meant by annual GPA is your annual grade.

At least tell me what you got each semester. If not in GPA, as in terms of how many As, Bs, Cs… If your school uses A+,A,A- system, then mention in detail also;

I’m pretty sure not all algorithms work. Plus you have to pay for that. Isn’t it not allowed to promote outside links?

Also, anyone know any good Cali or other out of state schools I should consider applying to based on my stats? I think private schools would be the best OOS for Cali right? I’m applying to Pepperdine and LMU, but should I look at any others? Should I even consider USC?

Bumpppppp!

Bump! Anyone else wanna chance me?

Hi,

I have a similar question.

My GPA is 3.7 (Weighted) from a very Competitive School in California.
My SAT score is 1960.

I have more than 300 Hours of Community Service Hours. Involved in helping Non-Profit Organization, worked in a hospital in India as an Intern, Worked in a Local Library as an Volunteer, Preparing elementary school kids for Math Olympiad etc etc.

My interest is go to UC Berkeley or UCLA. But I am not sure if my score is good enough or not. Based on the stats, the 2012 average GPA for UCB and UCLA are 4.20 and average SAT score is 2100. I still have chance to improve my SAT, which I believe could.

But keeping my current score in mind, I would like to know which UC is reachable to me.

Also planning to apply few Private Colleges in Bay Area, Santa Clara University, St. Marys etc.

Your suggestion will help me a lot.

Note: I am a very bright student and I really thought I would be at least 4.2+ in GPA and 2200+ in SAT. Due to various things happened in my family I was under total stress (I cannot express that here), and that is reason for the fall in my scores.

ponnuswamys, you should start your own thread. You have higher stats then me, so I can’t help you there.

I got my ACT scores today and I am impressed!!! I got a 32 in math, 33 in science, 31 reading and 30 Writing- 32 Composite!!! Was not expecting that, I’m incredibly happy. Any new chance takers with these scores?

At least BU is no longer a low reach…
