I am planning on applying EA. What are my chances?? Any chances at all?

I think it may depend on how well you do on your SAT II’s. I wouldn’t rule out applying RD so you can re-take your ACT/SAT again. Sorry, I was unclear on this point in my original reply. You have to weigh whether applying EA will give you a better advantage with your current scores, even though you may be able to improve your scores and then apply RD. This is a gamble I know. I am not in the position to make this call. I would consult with your GC at school, who is better equipped to make this determination. Good luck to you.

You have to capture a certain spark about you in your essay - make sure your subject tests are good as well. I don’t think EA and ED have any differences in admissions rates, but I’m not sure. Go for ED, I think you have a decent shot.

e5volcano I’m pretty sure you need math and chem/physics SAT II. My stats were similar except my sats were in 2100… but uh make sure you astound them with your essay otherwise your chances are looking slim even if you’re going in EA. And I would really not try going RD unless you think you can match 2100~ with your SAT or a 31 ACT.

You don’t need SAT II scores. I’d definitely re-take that ACT if you could. If you were in-state, I’d say it’s a match, but your ECs aren’t exactly stellar. You’ll need good standardized test scores.

What are your math grades like? And what did you score on the math section of the ACT?

^^^ You are absolutely right, no SAT II’s are needed at Michigan. My error. I did a spreadsheet of all my son’s schools and SAT II’s was one of the things I listed or, in this case, did NOT list for Michigan since they are not required.

AJW, if Michigan is your “dream school”, I would strongly recommend you take the SAT I/ACT in October and the SAT II in November or December. Michigan does not require SAT II scores, nor does it place too much weight on them if they are submitted.

As it stands, your GPA and scores make Michigan a reach. You really should try to raise your SAT/ACT.

What do you think he needs to get his ACT score up to 31? 32? Just wondering where you all think he needs to be to be competitive…is it harder because he it applying to engineering?

Thanks for the replies. My math and sceince grades are good. A’s in math, Chem & Physics. 29 on the ACT in Math. I am taking SAT11 in October. I would consider taking ACT again. Do you think a great essay would help?
