I am a high school senior planning on applying ED to Occidental College as it is my first choice. My GPA is 3.6 (unweighted at a progressive school that does not have AP or IB classes.) My ACT composite is 28 (although I received a 35 in reading) and my SAT score is 2000. I have logged 70+ hours working with autistic children at a local school and have helped set up multiple charity events to benefit organizations for homeless teenagers. I currently work about 20 hours a week at a job and have worked jobs every summer of high school. I'm in a band and considering sending in some of my photography as an art supplement as well. What do you think? My counselor said it is a mid-range school but I am thinking it is more of a reach.

i’d also like to breakdown that I am the president of my school’s GSA, a member of Model UN, and have taken extra honors classes at my school every year. Forgot to mention that I have also logged 100+ hours in a charity band gigging exclusively to raise money for cancer research. I have also been diagnosed with diabetes and gastroparesis during my time in high school which I believe affected slightly poorer grades junior year (more low B’s than A’s junior year)

Oxy is a relatively hard school to get into. It is n the top 50 for national liberal arts colleges. Here is the profile: http://www.oxy.edu/admission-aid/getting-in/class-profile. That being said, they will probably love the community service piece and all the wonderful charity work. I think it is easier to get in ED. Our daughter attends there and loves it. Good luck!

Are you sending both your ACT and SATs? and what’s the SAT breakdown? ACT is slightly below the composite mean, but on the low end of the middle 50% range and your are applying ED so that will help.
