I see you keep asking for chances, yet you certainly seem to be a fit – your ACT is still within range, though slighly low, but for ENG the math is what will interest them the most and you scored well. U of M places the greatest emphasis on GPA provided your courseload is rigorous and school is decent. Are you feeling terribly insecure or something? If so, use your big math brain (I am gently teasing you here) to calculate your own chances in the pool. Eg. you know that U of M admits apx 6k of apx. 29k applicants. You know that the top 50% have GPAs of 3.9 or higher and the top 25% (I think, but you go check) have ACTs above 32 and are in the top 10% of their school…You get the idea. Your English score won’t hurt you too much in ENG. There is a download in the Prospective Students area of the U of M admissions website that will show you how they assess your application. If you look at where you fall in the spectrum AND read that document, you’ll be able to get a sense of your chances.

Do all the things the ad cons tell you; take time and care on your app, have it in before Nov. 1; get good recommendations; write original essays, then wait like everyone else and do not take acceptance for granted but be cautiously optimistic.

My telling you that you’re a match is meaninglss (although I think you are a decent match) as is that kind of confirmation from other students or posters. You are playing from a place where you can “cause” your match by gleaning the tips at cc and channeling your nervous energy into perfecting your submission!

Also, OOS is very expensive. Make sure both you and your folks are on the same page regarding what it will take in order to attend U of Mich at apx. $46k a year OOS. You may well get scholarships, but do the analysis at finaid.org to find out what your Expected Family Contribution will be and run the “what if I don’t have scholarships” scenario so that your prepared for both best and worst cases. Also make sure you apply to enough programs to give yourself the maximum advantage.

Good luck, and relax (just a little. Not a lot : )
